Award Categories
Enduring Society Service
Recognizes an ISA member with a minimum of 10 years of distinguished and dedicated service at the Section, Division, and/or Society level.
Volunteer Leader of the Year
Recognizes the ISA member and volunteer leader who, in the previous year, has provided the most outstanding service to advance the mission of the Society.
Excellence in Mentoring
Recognizes an ISA member who has, in the previous year, excelled in mentoring students and/or young professionals in automation. The efforts of this honoree have promoted and encouraged student and/or young professional involvement in automation and ISA programs. Consideration is based on time, attitude, and effort in mentoring; willingness to share technical insights and guidance; encouragement and support for the development of skills and confidence insights, and feedback from mentees.
Excellence in Education
Recognizes an ISA member who has developed and/or enhanced educational programs to advance the automation profession through educational institutions. Consideration is based on documented and tangible results of a program newly adopted by an academic institution or enhancements made to an established program. Recipients must demonstrate outstanding administrative capability in advancing the goals of an educational program.
Excellence in Division Leadership
Recognizes an ISA member within each Division in good standing whose leadership has had a significant impact within the Division. The awardee must have served in a responsible charge within the division and demonstrated outstanding and inspirational leadership. The award would acknowledge specific, documented accomplishments in the previous year that have contributed to the technical leadership essential to the organization. These actions may include visionary planning, leader enlistment and training, communication, member engagement, innovative methods for technical dissemination, and/or facilitation of educational processes.
Section Excellence
Recognizes professional sections for development and execution of programs, initiatives, activities, and/or services that advance the mission of the Society. Award may be conferred on no more than 5% of the sections in good standing. Selection is equally weighted between the Section’s health score from the previous year and the outstanding initiative which has been launched, implemented, and produced tangible results in the previous year.
Student Section Excellence
Recognizes student sections for development and execution of programs, initiatives, activities, and/or services that advance the mission of the Society. Awards may be conferred on no more than 5% of the student sections in good standing. Selection is equally weighted between the student sections’ health score from the previous year and the outstanding initiative which has been launched, implemented, and produced tangible results in the previous year.

Recognizes up to five individuals with the most outstanding contributions in the development or implementation of a product, process, technical paper or presentation that introduces a new technology or explains an existing automation process. Content developed may include an ISA published article, whitepaper, case study, webinar or book with consideration for originality or novelty of the idea or reseach, technical and logical soundness, clarity and professionalism, level of inspiration, relevance to industry, and audience reception. Content may not be professionally edited and must have been presented or published in the preceding five years.
Division Excellence in Technical Achievement
Recognizes an individual member or member team from each Division for outstanding contributions in the development or implementation of a product, process, technical paper or presentation, or technology that has made a positive impact through or as part of the Division. This award highlights content that contains immense technical value applicable to the division community. Content developed may include an OnPoint presentation or an ISA published article, whitepaper, case study, or eBook with consideration for originality or novelty of the idea or research, technical and logical soundness, clarity and professionalism, level of inspiration, relevance to industry, and audience reception.
Excellence in Standards
Recognizes up to three (3) standards committee members for exceptional efforts in organization, development and/or administration to further the development of ISA standards.
Excellence in Technical Presentation
Recognizes the most outstanding paper, article, presentation, or document published and/or presented on behalf of ISA that introduces a new technology or explains an existing automation process.
Previous Recognition Awards
Honorary Member
Recognizes individuals, members or non-members, whose support of and/or contributions to the advancement of the automation profession deserve special recognition. Honorary Member is the highest honor bestowed by the Society. An Honorary Member has the rights and privileges of a senior member.
Award and Presentation
Honorary Membership is conferred at the discretion of the Honors and Award Committee. There is no limit to the number of individuals who may granted Honorary Membership. The recognition includes a plaque to be presented to each recipient during the annual honors and awards program.
Qualifications
Candidates are identified, evaluated, and recommended by a subcommittee of the Honors and Awards Committee. The Honors and Awards Committee will review recommendations of the subcommittee and select a candidate to be submitted to the Executive Board for approval.

Life Achievement Award
The Life Achievement Award recognizes individuals with a history of sustained dedication to the instrumentation, systems, and automation community. This is a discretionary award of the Society and thus is not presented annually.

Albert F. Sperry Founder Award
The Albert F. Sperry Founder Award was the Society's outstanding achievement award and recognized an outstanding technical, educational or philosophical contribution to the science and technology of instrumentation, systems, and automation. The award was named for Albert F. Sperry who was internationally recognized for his contributions to the advancement and development of instrumentation as an innovator, a business executive and a Society leader. He served as the first ISA President and was elected an Honorary Member of ISA in 1956.

Arnold O. Beckman Founder Award
The Arnold O. Beckman Founder Award recognized a significant technological contribution to the conception and implementation of a new principle of instrument design, development or application. The award was given in honor of Dr. Arnold O. Beckman who is internationally recognized for his outstanding contributions as a scientist, educator, executive, humanitarian and civic leader. He served as President of the Society in 1952 and was elected an Honorary Member in 1959.

Douglas H. Annin Award
The Douglas H. Annin Award recognized an outstanding achievement in the design, application, or development of the components in an automatic control system from the input measurement through the final control element. The award was in honor of Douglas H. Annin, a pioneer in modern-day control valve actuation and control valve body design.

ISA Analysis Division Luft Award
The ISA Analysis Division Luft Award recognized outstanding contributions in the analytical technology field. The award was named after the recognized inventor of the first process analyzer, Dr. Karl F. Don W. Thompson Award
The Don W. Thompson Award, established in 2001, recognized exemplary efforts and achievements to encourage and support student activity and to mentor students. The award was in recognition of Don W. Thompson, Tulsa Section, who served as an exemplary role model for the many students he mentored and encouraged. The Donald P. Emerging Leader Service Award
The Emerging Leader Service Award, established in 2005, recognized Society Members who made significant contributions to organizational units of the Society and its Members and had no more than 10 years of accumulated membership.
