Samuel Herb, P.E.

Samuel Herb Currently owner of JAOMAD Consultancy, Sam has previously been with Invensys Process Systems, Honeywell, Leeds & Northrup, Moore Process Automation, and Siemens during his career.  He has worked in the Utility and Process Controls industries nearly five decades; with various roles in marketing, business development, marketing communications, control applications, product management, systems engineering, project management, product evaluation, technical publications, and education..

Background ranges from design and testing of components within instrumentation, to responsibility for overall product line viability. Experience includes sensors, transmitters, pneumatic and electric controllers, final control elements, indicators and recorders, each as individual products as well as their combined use within systems.  For over a quarter century, he has been primarily involved with microprocessor-based distributed process control systems.

Holds BS/EE from Drexel University, is senior life member of ISA; served six years on faculty of Spring Garden College, PA as well as consultant to several companies.  Author of dozens of journal articles and technical papers for a variety of professional societies and technical publications; developed and has internationally presented talks, seminars, and courses in instrumentation for over three decades, consultant on several ISA video tape series, member of ISA95 committee, co-authored textbook "Understanding Distributed Process Control," authored chapters in Practical Guide Series on Continuous Control, and authored textbook "Understanding Distributed Processor Systems for Control," from which seven "Mini-books" have been developed by ISA for both on-line and hard copy;  developed five on-line courses & CDs on control systems; received ISA Eagle & Distinguished Society service awards and Donald P. Eckman award for education excellence.
