Length: 1 day
CEU Credits: 0.7
Course hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Certification of Completion: A Certificate of Completion indicating the total number of CEUs earned will be provided upon successful completion of the course.

Description:

This overview of industrial measurement and control uses a generally non-mathematical approach. You will leave with a basis for communicating with control system professionals.

You will be able to:

  • Utilize communication and knowledge, using the technical vocabulary, with measurement and control professionals
  • Discuss the role of measurement and control in industrial processes
  • Describe fundamentals of process control
  • State the difference between continuous, batch, and discrete control
  • Present samples of ISA standards to interpret symbols and drawings associated with process control documentation
  • Recognize the of most common methods and devices used in temperature, pressure, level, and flow measurement
  • Describe control valves and types
  • Describe control system hardware, control modes and tuning concepts

You will cover:

  • Concepts of Process Control: Definition | Types | What Industries Use Process Control? | Continuous vs. Batch Processing
  • Documentation: Instrument Symbols and Identification | Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs) | Loop Diagrams | Other Forms
  • Flow Measurement: Definition | Orifice Plates | Flowmeters and Principles | Other Devices
  • Level Measurement: Definition | Types of Devices
  • Pressure Measurement: Definition | Types of Devices
  • Temperature Measurement: Definition | Thermocouples | Resistance Temperature Detectors | Thermistors
  • Final Control Elements: Control Valves | Actuators | Positioners | Applications
  • Overview of Process Dynamics
  • Control System Hardware: Controller Types | Transmission Methods | Personal Computers for Process Control
  • Controller Modes and Tuning: Controller Modes | Proportional Action | Integral Action | Derivative Action | Tuning
