Practical Cybersecurity Designed for Industrial Automation Professionals

ISA Cybersecurity Certificate Program Image

Industrial control systems were not built with today’s threat landscape in mind. Many facilities are running equipment that has been in place for decades, layered with newer technologies and connected in ways no one originally planned.

This reality demands training tailored to industrial automation.

The ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Certificate Program is grounded in the ISA/IEC 62443 standards, developed and maintained by ISA. These are the only globally recognized consensus-based standards created specifically for industrial automation and control systems. Asset owners, system integrators and suppliers rely on them because they address the challenges unique to operational technology.

When you train with ISA, you learn directly from the organization that created the standard. The content reflects the structure, intent and practical application of ISA/IEC 62443, giving you skills you can apply in real operational environments.

Why the ISA/IEC 62443 Certificates Carry Weight

These certificates demonstrate that you understand how to implement ISA/IEC 62443 requirements in real industrial settings. They show you can:

  • Conduct risk assessments for new and existing control systems
  • Design and implement secure system architectures
  • Maintain cybersecurity performance over time
  • Make technical decisions grounded in the standard

Employers, clients and regulators recognize the ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Certificate Program as a benchmark of expertise in industrial cybersecurity. It signals that your knowledge is not theoretical. It is practical and validated.

What Makes ISA Training Different

When it comes to ISA/IEC 62443, there is no substitute for learning from the organization that developed the standard.

ISA designs the courses around control systems from the ground up. You will not find content repurposed from IT security frameworks. Instead, every topic is presented in the context of real industrial environments, operational constraints and the full system lifecycle. The focus is on practical application, from risk assessment and system segmentation to design and maintenance strategies.

Instruction is delivered by professionals who work directly in industrial automation and cybersecurity. They explain how organizations implement the standard, where projects often run into challenges and how to align technical decisions with ISA/IEC 62443 in a way that is both compliant and practical. Examples reflect what happens in plants, pipelines and processing facilities, not corporate office networks.

Exams are designed to measure real understanding. They test how the standard’s elements connect across the lifecycle and confirm that you can apply the framework with confidence. Earning an ISA certificate demonstrates competency that is recognized and respected across the automation industry.

ISA training gives you more than familiarity with terminology. It gives you a working knowledge of the standard and the skills to apply it where it matters most.

Built for the Realities of Industrial Automation

Program Overview

The certificate program follows the full industrial automation and control systems lifecycle. Each certificate requires successful completion of a course and exam. Certificate 1 is required before advancing to the remaining levels which may be taken in any order. The ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Expert certificate is awarded automatically upon successful completion of all four certificates.

Fast Track Your ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Expert Certificate

For professionals who want to move efficiently through the advanced levels of the program, ISA offers a five-day Fast Track option: the ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Fast Track (IC48) course.

The ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Fast Track course covers the first three phases of the industrial automation and control systems cybersecurity lifecycle as defined in ISA/IEC 62443-1-1, Security for Industrial Automation and Control Systems, Part 1-1: Terminology, Concepts and Models.

The course integrates content from:

  • Assessing the Cybersecurity of New or Existing IACS Systems (IC33)
  • IACS Cybersecurity Design and Implementation (IC34)
  • IACS Cybersecurity Operations and Maintenance (IC37)

Completion of the IC32 course and its certificate exam is required before enrolling in IC48. This course may be taken instead of completing IC33, IC34 and IC37 individually. After finishing the Fast Track course, you may sit for the exams for Certificates 2, 3 and 4 in any order. Registration includes one exam for each corresponding certificate. Upon earning Certificates 1 through 4, you are designated as an ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Expert.
