The objective of this course is to teach new techniques that can be used passively and while the process is operating to verify the performance of process instrumentation, access the reliability of process instrumentation, and provide in-situ/on-line instrumentation diagnostics. This course presents methods you can use to reduce I&C maintenance costs, increase plant output and safety, deal with I&C aging and obsolescence, and provide for plant life extension. The material is practical in nature and immediately useable in a variety of operating processes.
This course and its related contents are pertinent to plant management and technical personnel, including technicians, engineers, superintendents, supervisors, safety and regulatory staff, training managers, and other individuals who are concerned with process instrumentation, maintenance, aging and obsolescence management, efficiency improvements, cost reduction, and plant life extension issues. The course is also beneficial to academic personnel (professors, students, researchers) who deal with instrumentation issues, temperature and pressure measurements, automated testing, process diagnostics; and to research and development engineers and scientists from national and international laboratories and other engineering and science organizations.
You will be able to:
- Identify process instrumentation problems and solutions
- Improve the accuracy and reliability of your temperature and pressure measurements
- Use in-situ methods to verify the steady state and transit performance of temperature and pressure sensors
- Assess aging status of process sensors
- Identify what problems to guard against in making measurements with industrial temperature and pressure instrumentation and associated components
- Establish the accuracy of industrial temperature and pressure measurements
- Measure the response time of temperature and pressure sensors and identifying problems, such as blockages and voids in pressure sensing lines, and/or inadequate insertion of temperature sensors in their thermowells
- Implement diagnostics of process instrumentation channels (i.e., means to test the sensors, the cables, and the rest of a channel)
- Analyze state-of-the-art industrial temperature and pressure measurements and identify what is on the horizon
