ABB formally endorsed the Future Renewable Electric Energy Delivery and Management Systems Center, headquartered at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. ABB signed a multi-year agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority worth $15 million to supply 670 Series protection and control relays over the next 10 years. ABB has received two orders from SSAB Tunnplåt for a combined value of over $18 million to expand production at the SSAB's steel mill in Borlänge, Sweden. ABB and Saab AB signed a letter of intent to collaborate on new solutions for the civil security market and process industries to protect critical network infrastructure and data integrity for municipal customers such as utilities, airports, subways, as well as for process industry customers. ABB won orders worth a total of $75 million from Oncor Electric Delivery for technology to maintain the reliability of the grid in the north Texas area while lowering environmental impact. ABB won a $75-million contract from Eskom, South Africa's national electricity provider, to supply and install circuit breakers to strengthen the country's electricity network.
Apriso Corporation, a provider of adaptive software solutions for global manufacturing operations management, is part of an expansion effort with Saint-Gobain, a $56.5 billion (€42 billion) industrial corporation operating in 54 countries. Saint-Gobain will extend its Apriso FlexNet installation to 19 float glass locations.
AutomationDirect opened a new automation laboratory on the campus of Northern Illinois University to maintain pace with automation changes in the classroom and produce well-qualified graduates.

Emerson Process Management and BP are collaborating on applications of wireless technology to speed its use for business improvement. BP has expanded its Cherry Point, Wash., refinery applications, installed Smart Wireless throughout its tank farm in its R&D facility in Naperville, Ill., and is making installations at its other refineries around the world. Emerson Process Management is shipping WirelessHART products from its Smart Wireless range of pressure, flow, level, temperature, vibration, pH, and discrete transmitters and gateways. The continuous stream of future new products from Emerson will also use the standard, including the soon-to-be-released valve position transmitter, and Smart Wireless THUM adapter that will unleash stranded diagnostics in legacy devices. Emerson Process Management is updating the controls at a power station that provides electricity and steam to PetroChina's Dalian Refinery, located in northeastern China's Liaoning province. The refinery is expanding its operation, which will boost annual production capacity to 20.5 million tons, making it the largest refinery in China.

Honeywell won a contract to install a new process safety system at DONG Oil Pipe A/S facility in West Jylland, Denmark. The 18-month project sees the replacement of existing systems with Honeywell's Safety Manager.
Invensys Process Systems won a major contract to upgrade control and automation systems at a liquefied natural gas terminal and regasification plant near Barcelona, Spain. The site at Barcelona Terminal is one of three such facilities run by Enagas, Spain's leading natural gas transportation, regasification, and storage company.

MTS Systems Corporation acquired the assets of SANS Group, a privately held company based in Shenzhen, China. The transaction is valued at nearly $43.6 million.
Semaphore, a CSE Global company, welcomes Guillevin International Co. as a distribution partner for Semaphore's Kingfisher SCADA system product line, which includes features for SCADA systems (redundant configurations, intelligent I/O, and open programming) and is compliant with IEC 61131-3 and IEC 61499. Guillevin International is a major distributor of industrial supplies as well as safety products and equipment.
Siemens Energy secured an order from India for the supply of four steam turbine generators. Purchaser is the Indian utility Vadinar Power Company Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Essar Oil Ltd. The order is worth approximately $53.7 million (€40 million).
Wurldtech Security Technologies, a global cyber risk and compliance management provider for industrial automation industries, received the Achilles Level 1 cyber security certification from Wurldtech Labs for its Kongsberg Aim 8.2 RCU501 industrial controller. The Achilles program presents device manufacturers with an independently verified result from which to demonstrate the quality, reliability, and security of their industrial Ethernet control systems to customers.
