ABB formed a joint venture with Stora Enso to provide all maintenance operations and improve efficiency at six pulp, paper, and board mills in Finland, to begin in January with estimated annual revenues of between $200-270 million. ABB won orders worth a total of $75 million to supply propulsion, power-generation, and power-distribution systems for building new vessels in South Korea to process and transport liquefied natural gas extracted from subsea and onshore reserves. ABB signed a $20-million contract with the operator of Albania's electricity transmission network for a system to improve reliability of the grid by monitoring and controlling high-voltage transmission. The new network manager system will make it easier to preserve the balance between generation and consumption.
AnaeCo out of Perth, Australia, completed the first installation of DiCOM, an automated bioconversion process that converts municipal waste into high quality compost, which would otherwise be incinerated or transported to a landfill. The biogas produced during the process generates renewable emissions-free electricity to power the facility.
Emerson Process Management's Smart Wireless technology has seen success overcoming a fuel supply outage at BP Bitumen near Brisbane, Australia, showing flexibility when two wireless transmitters quickly deployed to manage fuel delivery from temporary LPG tanks rushed into service during a refinery shutdown of the regular fuel system. Emerson's smart wireless network is also protecting hot asphalt tanks at the Hunt Refining Company in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Tanks are fitted with wireless temperature transmitters as a cost-effective means of keeping control room operators informed of conditions inside the tanks, helping the tanks maintain temperature uniformity and preventing formation of cold spots, where trapped moisture can lead to damage with repairs costing up to $200,000 per tank.
Endicott Interconnect Technologies, Inc. received Trusted Accreditation by the Defense Microelectronics Activity as a trusted source to the Department of Defense and all other U.S. government agencies.
GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms added three new modules to its 8000 Process I/O line of GE Fanuc Process Solutions. The 8129 Supervised Discrete Input/Output Module, the 8132 Universal Analog Input Module, and the 8133 Analog Input with HART Module, offer users flexibility, range, and ease of configuration as part of the overall value of the 8000 Process I/O line.
The HART Communication Foundation registered the first field device verified using the approved HART 7 Test Specification-the Hoffer Flow Controls HRT1 rate indicator/totalizer.
Honeywell will serve as the integrated main automation contractor for the first light weight coated paper plant in Russia from Vaahto Pulp & Paper Machinery, a specialist Finnish systems integrator serving the pulp and paper industry. The company will rely on Honeywell for project engineering services at the beginning of the project and for training and on-site services upon completion. The project is part of a $40 million revamp of the Kama paper mill in Krasnokamsk, located in Russia's Perm region. Honeywell will help protect Woodside's Pluto onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant with a sophisticated industrial security system. The integrated industrial security solutions facilitate faster and more-informed responses to potential risks. The system for the Pluto LNG Project will provide convenient monitoring and single-window control of all access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance sub-systems.
Invensys Process Systems will supply Enel with control and automation technology for the world's first hydrogen-fuelled power plant, to be constructed in Fusina, near Venice in the Veneto region of Italy. Enel is Italy's largest power company with more than 50 million power and gas customers and a presence in 21 countries.
K-TEK level measurement instrumentation supplier integrated ASI Instruments and its line of dry bulk solids level detection and measurement instruments into K-TEK Corporation. ASI Instruments will become the K-TEK Solids Level group and focus on dry bulk solids level detection and measurement devices.
Liaison Technologies will deliver its integration services to PaloDEx Group, a designer and producer of digital and analog dental imaging equipment.
