Yokogawa Electric Corporation's DPharp EJA V2.5 device type manager (DTM) is now certified by the FDT Group for Foundation fieldbus, allowing users of Yokogawa's intelligent devices to tap field device tool (FDT)/DTM technology with the guarantee of interoperability and trouble-free installation.
Wärtsilä and Emerson Process Management expanded their global offshore alliance, now delivering integrated energy and automation systems for floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels and semi-submersible oil and gas drilling rigs. The companies' expanded relationship offers a single point for serving the FPSO segment with the ability to offer system engineering, purchase, installations, commissioning, and servicing for this market.
Swedish bio-refinery SunPine AB will use Invensys SimSci-Esscor's PRO/II simulation software for modeling a new biodiesel refining operation in Piteå, Sweden. The new plant, a member of the Solander Science park biofuels collaboration, converts crude bio-oil byproducts of pine pulping into second-generation biodiesel for shipment to diesel refining facilities.
Iconics a provider of web-enabled, OPC-based, HMI/SCADA visualization and manufacturing intelligence software for Microsoft Windows operating systems, signed an agreement with Kepware Technologies, an OPC device communications for automation provider. The two will create the world's first total end-to-end OPC-UA solution.
Honeywell supplied Ahlstrom, a global provider of fiber-based paper products, with process control technology to run Ahlstrom's new mill in Tver, Russia. The mill produces glassfiber tissue for Russian industrial consumers. Honeywell installed its Experion process knowledge system (PKS) with PMD controller with integrated machine control system and line drives control to manage key production processes at the mill. Rautaruukki Oyj will use Honeywell's Experion PKS with PMD Controller system to automate the production processes of Rautaruukki's Raahe, Finland, manufacturing plant and to help increase output and enhance product quality. The Experion system will control the secondary metallurgical process-a key sub-process in manufacturing high-quality steel products.
Sensidyne, LP, a Florida limited partnership and member of the Schauenburg Group, has reached an agreement to acquire the assets of Sensidyne, Inc., a manufacturer of industrial health and safety instrumentation. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. All Sensidyne, Inc., employees have joined Sensidyne, LP.

In response to 30-40 power outages annually, the consulting engineering group at Franek Technologies, Inc., a Category III-3 laboratory protection systems (LPS/UPS) provider, developed a customized power protection solution for the State of Wyoming Public Health Laboratory's $1 million investment in critical instrumentation from Agilent, Applied Biosystems, Biomerieux, Bio-Rad, Cepheid, Gen Probe, Hitachi, Roche Diagnostics, Thermo Fisher, Trinity BioTech, and Varian. They installed 25 discrete instrument-specific power protection units to protect patient samples and decrease retesting, replacement, calibrator, and reagent costs.
