ABB completed the sale of its downstream oil and gas business Lummus Global to Chicago Bridge & Iron Co. (CB&I) for an enterprise value of $950 million. ABB also won orders worth $440 million from the State Grid Corporation of China and other partners to provide new ultrahigh-voltage technology for the world's longest power transmission link, with a capacity of 6,400 megawatts for the needs of 31 million people in China, based on average consumption per capita. The link from the Xiangjiaba hydropower plant to Shanghai is scheduled for completion in 2011. ABB won a contract from Wise Alloys LLC to manage service activities and raise productivity at its Muscle Shoals, Ala., facility. ABB Inc. joined PTO North America, one of 25 regional associations that develop and promote the use of PROFIBUS fieldbus and PROFINET Industrial Ethernet standards for automation.

Emerson Process Management received a contract of $19 million to supply metering systems to Reliance Petroleum Limited (RPL), a new refinery venture of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). Emerson Process Management also won a contract to install its PlantWeb digital architecture with the Ovation expert control system at Southwest Power Station Unit 2, a new 300-MW, coal fired unit being built by Springfield, Mo.-based City Utilities.

GE was awarded a $2.5 million contract to provide a total plant control system for a project by Adani Power Limited at its Mundra site in District Kutch, Gujarat, India.

Honeywell was awarded a $4-million contract with Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y., to implement a renewable energy technology and infrastructure upgrade program to help the medical center cut greenhouse gas emissions. The technology is guaranteed to save Arnot Ogden more than $535,000 in annual energy and operational costs, with a wood chip-fired boiler that will handle most of the heating load for the Main Medical Center. Honeywell will install MXProLine, a specialized measurement and control solution, at Hangzhou Dingsheng Industries Co. Ltd's newest facility in Dingsheng, China, reducing downtime for the aluminum manufacturing company in eastern China. Honeywell will provide Billerud, a Swedish manufacturer of packaging paper, with a Da Vinci Quality Control System (QCS) and a range of actuators as part of a project to rebuild the company's paper machine at its plant in Karlsborg, Sweden.

IBM's Global Business Services has joined Rockwell Automation's FactoryTalk Information Solution Provider program, building on the two companies' collaboration on plant-to-enterprise solutions within several industries including automotive and life sciences. 

Invensys Process Systems' performance services group won a contract to deliver cyber security protection services to Husky Energy's Upgrader Plant in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Canada, including site and vulnerability assessment, policy requirement drafting, security architecture and policy development, modernization of existing technology, and continuous management, review, testing, and optimization.

Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) has approved EtherCAT for SEMI applications and has accepted EtherCAT as a SEMI standard.

The StatoilHydro Ormen Lange natural gas processing plant in Aukra, Norway, is the next recipient of the HART Communication Foundation (HCF) 2007 HART Plant of the Year Award. The award is given annually to recognize the people, companies, and plant sites around the globe using HART Communication in real-time applications.
