Control System Integrators Association (CSIA) surpassed the 300-member level this year, a one-year record, and extended its reach to North, Central, and South America; Europe, from the U.K. to the Czech Republic; the Middle East; Australia; and Asia-including control system integrators in China, India, Japan, and Russia.
The Dow Chemical Company adopted the Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. SIMATIC PCS 7 distributed control system as its new standard for laboratory process control applications worldwide.
Honeywell signed a contract to provide the integrated control system for Woodside's new Pluto liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Western Australia. Woodside is Australia's leading independent oil and gas company and a major supplier of energy to Asia. The project includes sub-sea wells; an offshore, unmanned wellhead platform; a 180-kilometer trunk line; an onshore LNG plant; and associated infrastructure located near Karratha. Project leaders expect to produce 4.3 million tons of LNG per year. The control system project is scheduled for completion in 2009, and production should begin late 2010.
OPC Training Institute selected Kepware Technologies, an automation communications company, as their preferred demonstration product for use in OPC hands-on training workshops. Their technologies allow users to quickly set up communications from equipment to control and business systems via plug-in device drivers and components.
Opto 22 awarded its first OptoGreen grant to Makila Hydro LLC, a group of renewable energy specialists from Hawaii Energy Group. The award offers complimentary automation hardware and software to businesses, research organizations, and other enterprises engaged in researching, designing, developing, or producing any product or service that promotes alternative or renewable energy or sustainability.
Wurldtech Security Technologies, a cyber-security company for SCADA, process-control, and critical infrastructure industries worldwide, is now a technical member of the ISA Security Compliance Institute, an organization of industrial technology vendors and end-users dedicated to establishing specifications and processes for testing and certifying control systems products.
