Foxboro, Mass.-based Invensys Process Systems celebrated the flawless startup of a comprehensive enterprise control system at the ExxonMobil Port Allen Lubricants Plant in Louisiana. The InFusion-based system uses Microsoft.NET to provide functional integration from the plant's SAP enterprise resource planning system (inventory, order/shipments), through batch process control, and final packaging and shipping operations.
Honeywell signed a six-year agreement with BP Exploration to provide main automation contractor services at BP's new and existing facilities, accelerating production schedules and improving facility efficiency by integrating plant operations and automating critical processes. Honeywell signed a contract to provide Billerud, a Swedish manufacturer of packaging paper, with a Da Vinci Quality Control System and a range of actuators as part of a project to rebuild the company's paper machine at its plant in Karlsborg, Sweden, increasing production speed and yield, and improving the quality of sack and kraft paper used in packaging.
ABB is supplying complete power and automation services for a new waste-to-energy power plant-the largest of its kind in Germany-to generate clean heat and power for Infraserv Höchst, one of the biggest chemical and pharmaceutical parks in Europe, which includes BASF, Bayer, Cargill, Merck, and Pfizer. The $400 million project is scheduled for completion in 2009 and will help Infraserv Höchst supply clean power and heat at competitive prices to the 90 companies with production and R&D facilities at the site.
IBM's Global Business Services joined Rockwell Automation's FactoryTalk Information Solution Provider program. IBM will help manufacturers build plant-wide information applications and manufacturing execution systems using the FactoryTalk suite of integrated production and performance software in fields such as automotive and life sciences. Rockwell Automation trains and certifies participants on implementing applications within the FactoryTalk suite to facilitate better interaction between the plant floor and higher-level business systems.
