ABB signed a full-service agreement with Huhtamäki Oyj (a packaging firm focusing on paper, plastic, films, and molded fiber) to manage maintenance activities at its facility in Hameenlinna, Finland. ABB will take on full maintenance responsibility at the Hameenlinna site beginning 1 May to develop the plants' maintenance operations and increase production efficiency.
AMETEK, Inc. acquired Newage Testing Instruments, a privately held manufacturer of hardness testing equipment used in aerospace, oil exploration and defense, to help AMETEK meet demand for measuring thin materials, small parts, and micro-structures in the surface of materials.
ConnectKentucky received the 2008 Susan G. Hadden Pioneer Award from the Alliance for Public Technology in honor of individuals and organizations that advocate for widespread public access to advanced telecommunications.
Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, a supplier of rugged embedded boards and subsystems for the aerospace and defense market, acquired the business and assets of Pentland Systems Ltd., Livingston, Scotland, a supplier of rugged signal acquisition solutions. The purchase enhances Curtiss-Wright's sensor processing product portfolio adding RF/IF signal acquisition, analog, digital I/O, and synchro/resolver products for radar, software defined radio, and signal intelligence applications.
Davis Instruments, a test, measurement, and control instruments firm, expanded its sales business to Vernon Hills, Ill., increasing inventory via its 155,000 square foot warehouse.
Kepware Technologies an automation communications group will again provide third-party communications for FactoryTalk View Site Edition and FactoryTalk View Machine Edition products from Rockwell Automation. The company also joined the Rockwell Automation PartnerNetwork as an Encompass product partner to serve as third-party connectivity for Rockwell's customers and sales associates.
Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. is now the main automation vendor for the new BASF JONCRYL polymer plant in Wyandotte, Mich. The green field project of more than 5,000 I/O points, scheduled for completion in 2009, will include the Siemens SIMATIC PCS 7 distributed control system and promises to be the largest PROFIBUS PA installation in the U.S. with more than 3,000 field devices, and one of the world's largest applications of redundant fieldbus.
TÜV Rheinland Holding AG and TÜV SÜD AG plan to merge to create an international technical services group with core competencies to include testing, inspection, certification, and training. The new company would employ about 25,000 people worldwide and achieve sales of more than $3.2 billion (€2.2 billion).
