ABB won a $53 million contract from Dubai Aluminum Company Limited (DUBAL) to upgrade electrical and automation systems at the company's 480-hectare smelter complex in Dubai. DUBAL operates one of the largest single-site aluminum smelters in the world. Under terms of the contract, ABB will replace 16 high-voltage regulating transformers with five larger units, rated at 86 megavolt amperes, to increase capacity and combine two smelting pot lines as well as provide design, installation, and commissioning services for the project.
Bentley Systems, Inc. entered a strategic initiative to deliver bridge information modeling (BrIM) technology for the entire bridge lifecycle. A new business unit, Bentley BrIM, will drive the initiative to provide broad access to newly acquired advanced bridge products in Bentley's software portfolio. Wärmebetriebe GmbH, a provider of district heating that operates more than 50 pipeline networks in Austria, is implementing a geographic information system based on sisNET from Bentley Systems.
Emerson Process Management has been chosen to design and install its advanced PlantWeb digital plant architecture to automate Shanghai CP Guojian Pharmaceutical Company's new API production suite, which will have the largest mammalian cell-culture system in Asia.
Endicott Interconnect Technologies, Inc. (EI) entered a sales and manufacturing agreement with Unimicron Technology Corp., Taiwan, to produce CoreEZ organic substrates. Terms of the agreement say EI maintains control of the original design and technical support worldwide for the product line. Unimicron will be the high volume manufacturer of CoreEZ products per EI's specifications and requirements. Sales will be jointly handled by the two companies.
Freescale Semiconductor, a provider of magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) products, is providing non-volatile MRAM technology for an industrial touch-screen application developed by Siemens' Industry Automation division. The company's 4Mbit MRAM device is integrated into Siemens' Simatic Multipanel MP 277 and MP 377 human machine interface used in industrial automation systems.
GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, a unit of GE Enterprise Solutions, and MTL Instruments Group plc signed an agreement for GE Fanuc to acquire the assets of the MTL Open Systems Technology product lines including the MTL8000 general purpose I/O, intrinsically safe I/O, SafetyNet system, and process control technologies.
Honeywell will upgrade the process automation technology for Qatar Vinyl Company, a petrochemical company, with applications in polyvinyl chloride, alumina, detergent, and pulp and paper manufacturers. The new system at the plant in Mesaieed Industrial City near Doha, Qatar, will help manage the annual production of 220,000 metric tons of vinyl chloride monomer, 175,000 metric tons of ethylene dichloride, and 580,000 metric tons of caustic soda.
MTS Systems Corp.'s sensors division developed a Foundation Fieldbus output for a line of liquid level transmitters. Ongoing testing of the new interface met or surpassed expectations.
Rotork Controls, Inc. formed a new division to integrate and expand the product offerings, resources, and customer sales and service capabilities of Jordan Controls, a valve and damper actuator manufacturer. Jordan Controls is now known as Rotork Process Controls, and it will keep its base in Milwaukee where it has design, manufacturing, and administrative facilities.
Semaphore, a CSE Global company, partnered with Pinnacle Sales Inc., a supplier to industrial process, oil and gas, power, utilities, water and wastewater industries, to distribute Semaphore's T-BOX and Kingfisher SCADA system and connectivity product lines.
