• ISA Standards & Practices Board presents 2014 awards

    Each year the ISA Standards & Practices (S&P) Board presents department-level awards in recognition of outstanding efforts that have resulted in ISA standards or technical reports, or that have resulted in significant outcomes for an ISA standards committee. Four individuals have been announced as winners of ISA’s 2014 S&P Department awards. They are:

    Penny Pei  ChenPenny Pei Chen

    Penny Pei Chen

    Penny Pei Chen, Ph.D., Principal Systems Architect at Yokogawa Corporation of America, received the award for her technical expertise and leadership in the development of the ground-breaking ISA100 Backhaul Architecture Model for wireless industrial networks.

    In her position at Yokogawa Corporation of America, she is responsible for technology standardization, marketing strategy focused on wireless, networking and related security, and exploring new technologies for industry applications. She is currently the Vice-Chairman of ISA100 Wireless Compliance Institute (WCI), Co-Chair of the ISA100.15 Backhaul Network Working Group, and Director-elect of ISA Communication Division (2015-2016).

    Michael Bachelor

    Michael Bachelor, Vice President of Bachelor Controls, Inc., received the award for technical expertise and contributions in the development of the widely used ISA-95 series of standards on Enterprise-Control System Integration.

    In his position at Bachelor Controls, Bachelor has both management and sales responsibilities. In conducting engineering studies, specification writing, and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) implementations, he aims to develop MES in the industry from an integrator’s perspective.

    Dave Glanzer

    Dave Glanzer, Director of Technology Development at Fieldbus Foundation, received the award for technical expertise and leadership in the development of the ground-breaking ISA100 Backhaul Architecture Model for wireless industrial networks.

    In his position at Fieldbus Foundation, Glanzer is responsible for technical specification development worldwide. An ISA Fellow, he possesses more  han 30 years of experience in automation systems design, strategic planning and quality improvement, and serves as Co-Chair of the ISA100.15 Wireless Backhaul Working Group.

    Klemme L. Herman

    Klemme L. Herman, I&C Supervising Engineer at Bechtel National, Inc., received the award for leadership and technical expertise as Chairperson of ISA67.02 in the revision and update of ANSI/ISA-67.02.01-2014, Nuclear Safety-Related Instrument-Sensing Line Piping and Tubing Standard for Use in Nuclear Power Plants.

    In his position at Bechtel National, Herman is currently assigned to a project that will vitrify the nuclear waste from the Manhattan Project at Hanford, Washington. In previous positions, he served as I&C Supervisor with Portland General Electric at the Trojan Nuclear Plant and as I&C Design Manager with Pacific Gas and Electric at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant.
