Emerson earns industry-first cybersecurity certification
ISASecure® SSA Level 1 certification distinguishes Emerson’s DeltaV automation system for meeting industry-consensus cybersecurity standards for process and safety controls
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina USA (18 March 2019) - Emerson (NYSE: EMR), a global technology and engineering leader, announced today it received the industry's first ISASecure® System Security Assurance (SSA™) Level 1 certification for cybersecurity.
This certification, for the company's newest DeltaV™ distributed control system, is the latest step in Emerson's commitment to provide secure digital transformation solutions for customers. ISASecure SSA Level 1 certification covers the most critical standards of the automation industry's leading family of standards, ANSI/ISA 62443 (IEC 62443).
The certification, issued by industry consortium ISA Security Compliance Institute (ISCI), independently certifies that Emerson's DeltaV distributed control and safety systems are robust against network and system attacks. DeltaV, an advanced automation system that simplifies operational complexity and lowers project risk, provides smart control capabilities for key industries in oil and gas operations, refineries, chemical plants, power and life science facilities.
"The world's leading industrial manufacturers are leveraging transformative digital technologies and methods to improve production reliability, safety and overall performance while focusing intensely on cybersecurity," said Peter Zornio, chief technology officer for Emerson's Automation Solutions business. "We are committed to helping our customers securely optimize their operations across the globe in an environment of increasing cyber threats."
The ISA cybersecurity certification is designed to help the industry navigate the ever-changing digital landscape and recognize products with enhanced cybersecurity measures.
"ISA developed the ISASecure cybersecurity certification to give asset owners confidence in their industrial control systems and to promote supplier best practices that protect automation systems and the operations they control," said Andre Ristaino, managing director of ISCI. "Emerson is taking a leading role that we hope other vendors will follow in further protecting personnel and processes alike from today's increasing security threats."

About the ISA Security Compliance Institute (ISCI)
Founded in 2007, the ISA Security Compliance Institute's mission is to provide the highest level of assurance possible for the cyber security of automation and control systems (ACS).
The Institute was established by thought leaders from major organizations in the industrial automation controls community seeking to improve the cyber security posture of Critical Infrastructure for generations to come.
The Institute's goals are realized through industry standards compliance programs, education, technical support, and improvements in suppliers' development processes and users' life cycle management practices. The ISASecure® designation independently confirms that control system products conform to the ISA/IEC 62443 cyber security standards, providing confidence to users of ISASecure certified products and systems and creating product differentiation for suppliers achieving the ISASecure designation.
The International Society of Automation (www.isa.org) is a nonprofit professional association that sets the standard for those who apply engineering and technology to improve the management, safety, and cybersecurity of modern automation and control systems used across industry and critical infrastructure. Founded in 1945, ISA develops widely used global standards; certifies industry professionals; provides education and training; publishes books and technical articles; hosts conferences and exhibits; and provides networking and career development programs for its 40,000 members and 400,000 customers around the world.
ISA owns Automation.com, a leading online publisher of automation-related content, and is the founding sponsor of The Automation Federation (www.automationfederation.org), an association of non-profit organizations serving as "The Voice of Automation." Through a wholly owned subsidiary, ISA bridges the gap between standards and their implementation with the ISA Security Compliance Institute (www.isasecure.org) and the ISA Wireless Compliance Institute (www.isa100wci.org).
