ISA and Beamex to co-host web seminar on how to calibrate temperature instruments
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA (29 July 2015) – The International Society of Automation (ISA) and its Premier Strategic Partner for calibration, Beamex, will co-host a free web seminar 1 September 2015 on how to calibrate temperature instruments.
The webinar, which will be held from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, will feature three temperature instrumentation experts: Tom Brans, Business Analyst at Honeywell; Ned Espy, Technical Director at Beamex; and Roy Tomalino, Professional Services Engineer at Beamex.
Temperature is the most common and frequently measurable variable in the process industry. It influences many physical features of matter and has a significant impact on quality, energy consumption and environmental emissions. Even so, proper procedures for managing and calibrating temperature instruments are often overlooked or not understood.
This webinar, the first of a two-part series, will begin with the basic concepts that drive temperature measurement. Experts will continue with an overview of available temperature instrumentation and use scenarios, along with best practice applications, and conclude with a typical temperature transmitter calibration demonstration.
Part two of this series will focus on advanced temperature measurements, such as multiple sensors, simultaneous instrument calibration, loop testing and infrared.
“In more than a decade of my experience visiting automation professionals, I've noticed many think they're the only ones who have questions regarding calibrating temperature instruments. Don’t feel alone—you’re not the only one. You don't know what you don't know. One goal with this webinar series is to help inform and answer those enigmatic questions, and even those you may not know you had,” explains Tomalino.
“ISA is pleased to co-sponsor this informational web seminar focused on calibrating temperature instruments. It’s an important topic in industry, and one that our members and customers encounter every day,” says Jennifer Infantino Halsey, ISA Corporate Partnerships Director. “As part of our commitment to our corporate partnerships program, we are pleased to participate in free educational programs featuring resources from our partner companies and other industry leaders.”
Together, Brans, Espy and Tomalino possess more than 40 years of temperature instrumentation experience.
Brans has worked with temperature, pressure, level and flow products at Honeywell Process Solutions and Emerson Process Management.
Espy has promoted calibration management with Beamex for almost 20 years. He continues to develop best practices for calibration, with a focus on temperature, pressure and multivariable instruments. A consistent editorial contributor to leading industry publications, Espy has received significant recognition within the automation industry. Recently, he contributed to the 416-page book, The Engineer’s Guide to Industrial Temperature Measurement. Each day, Espy teaches calibration best practices and provides technical support to end users and the Beamex sales team in North America.
Tomalino, with more than 15 years of technical training experience, has served as a trainer, certified developer and technical advisor. He also worked at Honeywell’s Fort Collins, Colorado office, where he supported the “DocuMint” calibration management software and Honeywell’s portable calibrator. Today, he conducts educational training sessions and provides technical support to Beamex customers in North America.
