ISA and Beamex to co-host web seminar on configuring and calibrating smart instruments
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA (15 July 2014) – The International Society of Automation (ISA) and its Premier Strategic Partner for calibration, Beamex, will co-host a free web seminar on 31 July 2014 that will discuss the purpose and most appropriate methods for configuring and calibrating smart instruments.
The web seminar, which will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, will feature two instrumentation experts: Roy Tomalino, Professional Services Engineer at Beamex, and Thomas Royce, Global Customer Support & E-learning Specialist at PR Electronics.
The vast majority of delivered instruments today are smart instruments. These smart instruments bring new challenges to the calibration and configuration processes. But what are these smart instruments and what is the best way to configure and calibrate them?
Attendees of the webinar can expect to learn about the unique aspects of smart instruments and view a live demonstration of configuring and calibrating both pressure and temperature smart instruments.
“We have started an automation paradigm shift, with smart instruments quickly becoming a daily norm. Every technician, experienced or new to the field, needs to understand these concepts to effectively and efficiently manage their calibration program," explains Greg Sumners, President of Beamex, Inc.
Jennifer Infantino, ISA’s Manager of Marketing, Communications and Corporate Partnerships, says that because smart instruments play an increasingly important role in automation and modern industrial manufacturing, it’s essential that automation professionals learn to properly configure and calibrate them.
“By collaborating with Beamex to conduct this free webinar, we can ensure that our members, customers and the automation community as a whole receive expert guidance and recommendations on the most effective use of these advanced devices,” Infantino says.
Together, Tomalino and Royce possess more than 30 years of technical training experience. Tomalino, with more than 15 years of technical training experience, has worked for Hewlett-Packard as a corporate trainer, and in leading new product introductions and managing worldwide training activities. Most recently, he served as a trainer, certified developer and technical advisor at Honeywell’s Fort Collins, Colorado
office, where he supported the “DocuMint” calibration management software and Honeywell’s 2020 portable calibrator.
Tomalino received a bachelor of science degree in computer information from Regis University in Denver, Colorado, and an associate in applied science (A.A.S.) electronics technology degree from Denver Institute of Technology. Six Sigma Green Belt certified, Tomalino continues to conduct educational training sessions and provide technical support.
Royce spent six years in the US Navy’s Nuclear Power Program, working in nuclear support facilities onboard the USS L.Y. Spear and U.S.S. Yellowstone. His focus was reactor plant repair, repairing or replacing primarily side valves on nuclear powered destroyers. After he completed his enlistment, he became an instructor, teaching electrical principals to USN sailors around the world. He then served as a chief plant engineer in the southern California meat processing and baking industries.
In 1999, Royce started his career in industrial instrumentation as an application/test engineer for Action instruments, a well-known producer of signal conditioners/signal isolators. In February 2005, he transitioned to PR Electronics. Today, Royce provides technical support and training to PR Electronics and to Beamex customers.
