ISA and Beamex to co-host web seminar on calibrating switches
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA (08 April 2014) - The International Society of Automation (ISA) and its Premier Strategic Partner for calibration, Beamex, will co-host a free web seminar on 23 April 2014 that will discuss the purpose and most appropriate methods for calibrating switches.
The webinar, which will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, will feature two leading calibration experts: Roy Tomalino, Professional Services Engineer at Beamex, and Mike Cable, Project Manager, Operations Systems at Argos Therapeutics. Several different types of switch testing, calibration best practices and application examples of the use of pressure and temperature switches will be covered.
"Our aim in conducting this webinar is to demystify switch testing and take the ‘shade tree’ mechanic out of the equation,” explains Tomalino. “We will illustrate how to automatically and precisely capture the pressure at which your switch should be actuated, instead of waiting for a click and guessing at which point the switch tripped on the pressure gauge dial."
Together, Tomalino and Cable possess more than 30 years of calibration management experience. Tomalino, with more than 15 years of technical training experience, has worked for Hewlett-Packard as a corporate trainer, and in leading new product introductions and managing worldwide training activities. Most recently, he served as a trainer, certified developer and technical advisor at Honeywell’s Fort Collins, Colorado office, where he supported the “DocuMint” calibration management software and Honeywell’s 2020 portable calibrator.
Tomalino received a bachelor of science degree in computer information from Regis University in Denver, Colorado, and an A.A.S. electronics technology degree from Denver Institute of Technology. Six Sigma Green Belt certified, Tomalino continues to conduct educational training sessions and provide technical support.
Cable authored the ISA published book, Calibration: A Technicians Guide, and contributed to the Automation Body of Knowledge publication, authoring the chapter on checkout, system testing and startup. Cable is a Level 3 Certified Control System Technician® (CCST®) and has assisted many automation professionals to gain their CCST certification. Throughout his career he has performed calibrations - typically as part of an overhaul or new facility startups - managed the calibration department of an operating company, formed a calibration services business unit, implemented computerized calibration management systems, and helped several companies implement their calibration programs.
