    NOVEMBER 2013

2013 ISA President, Terrence G. Ives, expresses his thanks to ISA members, recognizes November as ISA Member Appreciation Month

From the outset of my year as ISA President, I have witnessed the dedication and sterling contributions of ISA members first hand. Whether attending ISA division and section events or participating in the myriad of Society leadership, governance, and budget meetings, I have always come away impressed with and excited over members' passion and dedication. It's quite fitting that ISA has designated this month as ISA Member Appreciation Month. Throughout November, ISA is offering members special benefits, promotions, and discounts on products, and opportunities to win valuable gifts-including Starbucks gift cards and a 3-D printer.

    Member Spotlight:

ISA recently developed a case study that illustrates how the ISA Houston Section collaborated with ISA headquarters in Research Triangle Park, NC, USA, to sponsor a highly successful comprehensive training event in Houston, Texas, USA, over four consecutive weeks in June 2013. This case study can serve as a valuable guide for other ISA sections interested in sponsoring an ISA training event in their geographic area. Read the Executive Summary (Technical Training Camp case study short version.pdf)

Recently conducted national survey examines why women are leaving the engineering field
The US needs technological expertise to be competitive in the global market, and it is critical to train engineers to provide that expertise. However, research shows that women are much more likely to leave an engineering career. Explore the results of this national research study that investigates the reason why this is occurring, and what steps can be taken to stem the tide of departure and increase women's success in engineering careers.
