  • December Section Meeting

    Date: Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Time: Social Hour: 6:00 pm, Program & Dining: 6:30 pm

Topic: Manager Night: 2015 Tax Year Update

ISA New Orleans Section is pleased to present the one topic that affects and impacts all of us—taxes. The December meeting typically is our Manager’s Night, for which the section encourages members to invite their bosses. It provides an opportunity for a member to net-work as well as to expose to his or her manager the benefits of membership in the Society.

Judy Phillpott of Executive Tax Service LLC will be the meeting’s presenter in December. Judy has been featured speaker before the section on past occasions. She always makes an excellent and fact-filled presentation.

In addition to the annual 1040 revisions, Judy will dis-cuss the pros and cons of electing early Social Security and attendant taxability. Her partner, Laurie Schmaltz, will assist Judy. Please bring any tax questions you may have.

Recently, some members have been impacted, directly or indirectly, by staff reductions that have been propagating through the oil and gas industry. Changes in employment status often provide an unexpected opportunity to re-evaluate a career path. Such an opportunity might possibly lead to a role as an independent consult-ant or working for a consulting firm.

A career change of this type has implications that will have financial and tax impacts. For instance, in addition to deciding whether to incorporate as a “C”– or S-type entity or registering as a single-member LLC, liability and workers’ compensation insurances will have to be ad-dressed. All of these options have cost and tax implications. Judy and Laurie will be prepared to point you in the right direction.

Executive Tax Service LLC is a full service professional tax preparation and tax planning firm located in Metairie, Louisiana, assisting residents of Louisiana, other states, and other countries. Their goal is to minimize the taxpayer's liability by preparing a complete and accurate tax return.

The company was founded by Judith W. Phillpott, an Enrolled Agent since 1985, who has earned the privilege of practicing (i.e., representing taxpayers) before the Internal Revenue Service and the tax court in all tax matters.

Judy is a tax professional with 35 years of experience. Laurie P. Schmaltz is a tax professional of 10 years’ experience, and is also an Enrolled Agent. Both are members of the National Association of Enrolled Agents and the National Association of Tax Professionals. Executive Tax Service LLC personnel have a thorough knowledge of state and federal tax codes, and are available on a year round basis.
