• Publications Department Vice President

    Summary

    Working with ISA staff, the Publications Department VP is expected to lead the department in developing and implementing the strategy for producing and delivering the Society's publications.

    Department Purpose

    • Recommend and review policies to ensure the integrity, quality, and competitiveness of ISA's published intellectual property
    • Initiate or review all proposals involving new publication programs
    • Propose new publications
    • Monitor trends in publications and develop metrics to evaluate performance
    • Review and recommend changes to publication pricing structure
    • Organize opportunities for members to contribute published intellectual property and other content to the Society
    • Review existing publications and suggest refinements

    VP Responsibilities

    Appoint and oversee the InTech Editorial Advisory Board, Journals Advisory and Oversight Committee, and any other department committees or task forces

    • Be an advocate for ISA publications in the publishing community
    • Organize and facilitate meetings, including scheduling and agenda preparation
    • Actively identify, recruit and mentor potential leaders
    • Submit at least two VP candidates to ISA staff
    • Provide input to the Society budget, including travel expenses for VP and VP-elect
    • Submit reports to the Executive Board as requested

    Preferred Experience/Knowledge

    • Experience with the ISA Publications Board
    • Background in business management
    • Familiarity with automation technology and trends
    • Familiarity with technical publishing
    • Familiarity with the finances of publishing
    • Previous experience as an author, editor, or publisher 

    Requirements

    • Any Member, Honorary Member, Fellow, Senior Member, Life Member or Life Fellow

    Time Requirements

    • Four-year commitment - two years with responsibilities as elect followed by two years as VP
    • Teleconferences and reporting - approximately 1-2 hours per week
    • Face to Face Meetings
      • Annual Leadership Conference - 4 days
      • Strategic Leader Meeting - 3 days
