• ISA Houston Section awards 22 educational gifts, amounting to record $43,000 in scholarships

The ISA Houston Section in early June celebrated the scholastic achievements and engineering aptitude of college and high school students from the Houston area at its annual Scholarship Night.

At the event, which was sponsored by the Houston Engineering and Scientific Society, 22 local area students received either $1,000 or $2,500 educational scholarships as part of the section's annual scholarship program.

The total value of the scholarships awarded by the ISA Houston Section this year amounted to $43,000, more than twice the aggregate value, $19,000, of last year’s program.

“The ISA Houston Section is immensely gratified to be able to significantly increase the value of our scholarships this year,” says Sohail Iftikhar, Channel Development Leader at Honeywell Process Solutions who serves as ISA Houston President.  “Our section works very hard throughout the year to raise scholarship funds for deserving local students through our various events and activities, most notably through our Chili Cook-Off and golf tournament.”

Driven by the dedication and contributions of section members and volunteers and the support of the local community, revenue from these two events has increased 300 percent since 2011, Iftikhar reports.

“The Houston Section is committed to engaging the Houston area at all levels”, says Artis Bartle, Manager of Apex Measurement and Controls who serves as ISA Houston Scholarship Chair. “Our efforts to raise valuable scholarship funds for area students reflect this commitment as well as the importance we all place on helping to develop the next generation of automation professionals and engineers.”
