    ISA Spain's 20th Anniversary and Annual Conference

    IDEAS4AUTOMATION award competition

    Belgioioso, Italy

    The Ideas 4 Automation award program encourages the development of possible new applications in industrial automation. The award will enable the winner to develop his or her own ideas in support of AIS ISA Italy Section for the disclosure of the same.

    The award competition is open to high school students, undergraduates of any degree, and doctorate candidates who are interested or study any of three themes of the Automation Instrumentation Summit 2018. It is also possible to make a presentation about topics not limited to the themes listed and those focused on the concepts within automation and instrumentation. Students will be asked to show how an idea or proposal could be developed or realized.

    Submission Requirements

    All the material prepared shall be in English language.

    A. Complete the personal information form, contract, and details on the school/university.

    B. Include a brief (max. 4 pages and max. 1000 words) but detailed written description of the "Idea 4 Automation," highlighting the following points:

    • Main theme of your idea
    • Details of the idea
    • Explain the main steps for its realization
    • The conditions for its success
    • Support needed (not economic) for the realization of the idea (which knowledge and position is required for the realization)
    • Main effects of the idea (advantages, changes in social behaviors etc.)

    C. As an alternative to the written description, provide a brief video (max 3 minutes) where the candidates explain the idea, and include a bulleted list with the main features of the work as listed in Point B. The video shall be structured as the written presentation.

    Deadline for submission: 25 May 2018.

    Award Winners

    The awards will recognize the three best Ideas 4 Automation:

    FIRST PLACE | Prize money of 3000Euro + subscription to the AIS-ISA events 2018
    SECOND PLACE | Prize money of 2000Euro + subscription to the AIS-ISA events 2018
    THIRD PLACE | Prize money of 1000Euro + subscription to the AIS-ISA events 2018

    The ceremony will take place at the meeting, 4-5 July 2018. An initial selection of the ideas will be made prior to the conference. All the students whose ideas have been accepted will have the chance to attend the conference. The prizes will be given only to students who attend the conference. The presented Ideas will be judged by the scientific committee at the conference.

    Automation Instrumentation Summit co-locate with 5th ISA EMEA

    Following the 2017 success of the first AUTOMATION INSTRUMENTATION SUMMIT, promoted by AIS and ISA Italy Section, most exhibitors have already confirmed their support to the event, together with new companies that will participating for the first time.     The decision to hold last year's event in an unconventional setting, with its charming architecture and gardens, was appreciated by exhibitors and visitors. Attendees were able to organize their meetings in an appealing way and amid a unique atmosphere.

    This year, the exhibition rooms will cover both the ground floor and a wing on the first floor of the Castello di Belgioioso, while three rooms will be dedicated to the conferences: the famous SALA DEGLI STUCCHI on the main floor of the eighteenth-century castle; and two rooms of the medieval building: the SALA DEGLI AFFRESCHI on the ground floor and the SALA DELL'INCOMPIUTA on the first floor.

    Annual ISA Spain Student Sections meeting in Madrid

    In mid-March of this year, nine ISA Spain Student Sections met in Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (E.T.S. Ingeniería y Diseño Industrial) and Emerson offices near Madrid. Some of the topics discussed were sections activities, funding, organization, communications, procedures, international ISA student activities, scholarships and more. The meeting was directed by student section advisors while students worked on practical exercises with real instruments.

    Workshop: Industry 4.0, IIoT, 3D, Cloud Computing and Big Data

    The ISA Campinas Section held a one-day workshop focusing on Industry 4.0, IIoT, 3D, Cloud, and Big Data. The highly successful event, which attracted approximately 200 professionals, featured multiple presentations, important topical updates, and networking opportunities.

    The workshop, which was very well attended, included a Q&A session led by Marco Coghi, ISA Campinas Section President.

    State Level Project Competition in association with ISA Pune Section

    The Department of Instrumentation Engineering, Vishwakarma Institute of Technology Pune, in association with the ISA Pune Section, organized a State Level Project Competition on 5 April 2018.

    The competition received entries from approximately 30 project groups. Twenty-five project groups were shortlisted, and 19 project groups participated in the project competition. The groups represented various engineering colleges in and around Pune.

    Prizes were presented by Ganesh Dongre, Ph.D., the Dean of Research and Development at the Vishwakarma Institute of Technology; Shilpa Sondkar, the Head of the Department of Instrumentation Engineering at the Vishwakarma Institute of Technology; and Ramani Iyer, ISA District 14 Vice President.

    ISA members Satish Pathak, Anand Iyer, and Rohit Joshi served as judges along with Manisha Mhetre, Professor at Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, and Archana Chaudhari, Assistant Professor at Marathwada Mitra Mandal's College of Engineering in Pune.

    Students Vaidhei Pawar, Vijaya Poolla, Devhutti Somwase, and Ameya Manure from Cummins College of Engineering Pune, won the first prize for the project titled, Automatic Fruit Peeling Machine. Students Akshay Shinde, Prashant Raut, Shantanu Gokhale, Siddesh Vaidya, and Soham Naik from Flora Institute of Technology Pune won the first runner up prize for the project titled, Development of Automated Solar Panel Cleaning System. Students Anurag Lambhor, Arya Polas, and Aditi Bachhav from AISSMS College of Engineering Pune won the second runner up prize for the project titled, Vaporized Gasoline Fuel.

    Plant connectivity: How to use mobile devices in Industry

    This technical meeting, held in Cartagena Spain, took place during the 9th Annual Conference of Automation, organized by Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena. ISA Spain has participated in this event for many years and uses the opportunity to present about the section. Many attendees were present, making the event a great success.
