    As you plan your ISA section events for 2018-2019, consider teaming up with ISA Training to earn additional revenue for your section. You pick the course, the venue, and fill the seats. ISA brings the instructor and pays your section!

    Your section can earn 10-20% of the gross registration fees. The greater number of registrants, the more money you will make!

    Industrial Flow Measurement Overview (EI10C) training

    This one-day course presents applications of modern flow measurement systems. In addition, flowmeter accuracy, performance, sizing, specification, selection, and installation considerations are covered. A primary focus is placed on productivity improvement and cost efficiencies of measurement and control.     District 7 Leadership Conference Galveston Houston

    This District 7 Leadership Conference promises to be different from any DLC conducted in the past. The theme of conference is “How to Bring New Officers into Your Section." This is a working conference, so please plan to bring your laptops, tablets and notebooks on your sections. We will work on some exercises designed to help you bring new officers into your section, and hopefully new board members.

    Registration fee is $75, and a registration form needs to be submitted no later than 10 April 2018. Spouses who are registered are welcome to attend the Salsas Dinner on Galveston Island on Friday, 20 April 2018.

    Other items on the agenda include presentations on: how sections are working with sponsors, and how sections are using webinars successfully (rather than meetings) to educate their membership.

    Note: We have had requests from section presidents to also focus on the pros and cons of incorporating a section and applying for state sales tax exemption. We will be covering these items and more.

    Fundamentals of Industrial Automation, Instrumentation and Control

    The 48th Annual Fundamentals of Industrial Automation, Instrumentation, and Control training class is sponsored by the ISA Birmingham Section. This three-day class will provide instruction on the foundational aspects of industrial automation, instrumentation and control. It is intended for engineers, technicians, I&C team leaders, sales personnel, and other technical/automation professionals who are responsible for the specification, design, installation and maintenance of instrumentation and control equipment and systems.

    The course will cover the basics of temperature, pressure, flow, and level measurements; process control loops and tuning, with process control exercises; Programmable Logic Controls (PLC); Distributed Control Systems (DCS); Fieldbus Technology; and final control elements selection and application.     ISA San Juan Bosco Student Section activity

    Starting the New Year with a bang, ISA Spain’s student section in San Juan Bosco organized a few well-attended seminars! In January, the student section held two seminars: Instrumentation Management in Industrial Plants presented by D. Santiago Cordoba of SABIC Innovative Plastics; and Electrical Engineering, Basic Concepts in Industrial Automation presented by D. Maximo Hernandez.

    In early February, the San Juan Bosco Student Section organized a visit to SABIC facilities in Cartagena. Students enjoyed touring this large factory with its extensive automation systems.

    Plant Connectivity: How to Use Mobile Devices in Industry

    The ISA Spain Section conducted a technical meeting 20-21 February in Cartagena. The meeting was held at the 9th Conference of Automation organized by Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena. The ISA Spain Section has been participating in this event for many years and took advantage of an opportunity to present. The meeting was well attended by an enthusiastic audience.

    ISA Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería y Diseño Industrial (ETSIDI) Student Section Training Course: Floating Pressure Control

    ETSIDI, ISA Student Section in Madrid, Spain, organized a training course on Floating Pressure Control for Distillation Columns in early February. Diego Hergueta, an experienced expert in distillation columns control, served as the instructor of the course.

    ISA Valladolid Student Section Training Course: Matlab and Simulink

    The ISA Student Section in Valladolid (Spain) organized a training course on Floating Matlab and Simulink. The course, which was held 26 February – 8 March, was taught by Alberto Herreros and Enrique Baeyens.
