CCST question

Proportional band and reset are ________ of each other for tuning purposes.

A. inverse
B. additive
C. subtractive
D. compound

CSST answer

The answer is A, “inverse.”

We know that gain and integral (reset) action work to change the final control element output in the same direction in response to an error signal. But proportional band = 100/Gain. That makes proportional band and integral (reset) action work in opposite directions, or inversely to one another, in response to an error.
