CAP question

Which type of automation software can be used to detect special causes of process variation?

A. HMI
B. Statistical process control (SPC)
C. Multimedia alarming
D. Advanced process control (APC)

CAP answer

The answer is B, “Statistical process control (SPC).” Statistical process control is a method of quality control that employs statistical methods to monitor and control a process. It is used to determine when a process begins to show variation and allows the operator to determine if a process is trending toward a statistical limit. Using SPC can provide insights into the causes of variation by identifying variations in separate, correlated variables. SPC helps to differentiate between common cause variation and assignable cause variation.
