Automation Day at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater

Each year, the ISA Oklahoma State University, Stillwater Student Section hosts Automation Day to promote an understanding of control to the students. The highlights of this year’s event included great speaker presentations, a poster competition by student researchers, and an automation contest.

In the past, some of the contests have involved traffic light control, robot soccer player defender moves, scheduling of devices on a smart grid, and a lunar landing. This year, contestants tuned parameters to automatically land a flight simulator airplane. Unlike past years, this year’s Automation Day had a theme consistent with the contest. Hence, all presentations were to focus on automation and control in aerospace industry.

Notable speakers included Jamey Jacob, Ph.D., and He Bai, Ph.D., faculty members from the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Also in attendance were Blake Cunningham, James Price, and Clint Hladik, all from Tinker Air Base; Raymond Crow and Praveen Bhatapati from ABB, Bartlesville; and , Anand Vennavelli, Ph.D., from Fractionation Research, Inc, Stillwater.

The night ended with announcement of the annual newsletter, Destination Setpoint, and the awards felicitation ceremony.
