    2016 Training – NR12 – Solutions for Adequacy to Processes and Equipment Safety

    ISA Curitiba will offer the course, “NR12 – Solutions for Adequacy to Processes and Equipment Safety” 20-22 July 2016. This course is designed for occupational safety personnel, in industry or organizations, including engineers, technologists, and technicians. Participants will receive a broad exposure of process safety, relating to the prevention of fire, explosions, accidents, and occupational Illness.

    ISA Curitiba relies on the important institutional support from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR), which will offer its facilities for the session. The course will be led by ISA member and the President of ISA Curitiba Section, Professor Gil Fabio de Souza (an electrical engineer who earned a master’s degree in production engineering) and by Rubens Patruni Filho, a civil engineer and an expert in occupational security.

    The training sessions offered by the ISA Curitiba Section have been extremely well received by the local automation community. Participants can focus on content that specifically relates to their interests. Offerings are convenient and cost effective for busy professionals and students.

    ISA Maharashtra celebrates Silver Jubilee Year

    The ISA Maharashtra Section recently celebrated its Silver Jubilee Year. In commemoration, Rittal India Ltd. and ISA’s Maharashtra Section jointly conducted a Tech Talk Session followed by the past presidents’ appreciation ceremony.

    Neeraj Agarwal, President-elect, addressed 169 attendees about the value of ISA and its varied membership benefits. Rittal India Ltd’s Gangadhar shared its product quality specifications, specially relating to EMI and EMC compliance cabinets with seismic options and Ts type panel enclosures.

    Professor Dattatray Sawant, ISA Student Section Liaison, thanked student members and faculty advisors for their outstanding contributions in education and honored Sharad Jadhav and five students from engineering colleges. In addition, Newsletter Editor and Professor Supriya Bhuran released the June newsletter focusing on standards and practices.

    In addition, Vithal Magar, the 2015-2016 President, recognized the Silver Jubilee occasion with a cake cutting, which involved all 25 past presidents on hand and the 169 attendees. All past presidents received mementos in recognition of the event.

    Industrial Safety Seminar sponsored by the ISA Israel Section

    ISA’s Israel Section in June conducted a one-day seminar on industrial safety related issues at the Tel Aviv Convention Center. Various topics covered included: Equipment for Ex Atmosphere; an introduction to functional safety (IEC 61508/61511); safety instrumented function, a step-by-step demonstration; guidelines for designing Instruments to meet IEC61508 requirements; and real-life safety implementation.

    ISA Bahia Section technical meeting

    The ISA Bahia Section held its second technical meeting in June. The topic, Multiphase Flow Meter applied to the Oil & Gas Industry, was presented by expert speaker, Rodrigo de Castro e Neves, EE, MBA, a regional manager within Emerson´s Flow Division in Northeastern Brazil.

    Forty-six automation professionals working in engineering, service, and maintenance activities attended the meeting to learn about new multiphase flow technology. After the presentation, attendees asked numerous questions about product functionality and performance. The audience was also interested in recently approved federal regulation regarding the use and application of the multiphase flow equipment for production inventory and custody transfer.

    The presentation took place at the ABASE headquarters, the site of all ISA Bahia Section technical meetings throughout 2016.
