A two-day national symposium on automation and information & communication technology (ICT) in Smart Cities will assist the government of India's initiative to develop 100 smart cities across India. Automation and ICT play major roles in the development of smart solutions like water management, energy management, waste management, urban mobility, e-governance, tele-medicine, and skill development.
The symposium will cover the use of automation and ICT that will enhance the effectiveness of investments made for infrastructure development. Featured will be more than 25 speakers and panelists drawn from amongst the policy makers, automation & ICT vendors, system integrators, smart city consultants, turnkey engineering companies, real estate companies, builders and architects, OEMs, central and state government ministries, municipal corporations and young startups. The gathering will examine new technologies entering the market and the latest trends and technologies. More than 250 delegates are encouraged to interact in the expert discussions and Q&A sessions.
Various exhibitors will showcase their latest products, systems and solutions in the two-day exhibition focused on automation and ICT, as applied to the smart city domain.
Panel discussions at the end of the first day's session will feature some of the top leaders in business, industry and policy-making

The Toledo Section Exposition and Symposium will feature more than 30 vendors displaying a diverse range of instrumentation and electrical equipment. Up to four informational seminars will be held and door prizes will be awarded. Lunch will be provided at no charge to visitors/attendees!

Industrial Communications Networks - Ethernet, Profibus, Profinet and Others
In October of this year, the ISA Campinas Section held a technical meeting for the first time in Jundiaí (a town near Campinas) at the UNIP - Paulista University Auditorium.
The meeting, Industrial Communication Networks - Ethernet, Profibus, Profinet and Other, began with a speech by Campinas' Section President Marcílio Pongitori. Other speakers-from Advantech, Beckhoff, Siemens, Endress+Hauser, Moxa, Baumier, and Profibus Association-presented several successful cases and new approaches concerning industrial networks.
More than 150 attended and were pleased with the content and the opportunity to enhance their own networks.

National Technology Week
Also in October of this year, ISA’s Rio de Janeiro Section partnered with the Universidade Unicarioca for National Technology Week. The section presented on: Instrumentation Projects and Opportunities of The Internet Era of Things. The public was very receptive and showed great interest in joining ISA!
World Robotic Olympiads – WRO
The ISA El Salvador Section, along with other institutions, developed the first World Robotics Olympiads (WRO) in El Salvador. Participants were children and young adults, between 10 and 19 years of age, enrolled in a robotics program. At WRO, contestants demonstrated their abilities to resolve challenges under the robotics program, “LEGO Education.” The event was divided into categories:
- Category A: 10 to 12 years of age
- Category B: 13 to 15 years of age
- Category C: 16 to 19 years of age
- Football category: 10 to 19 years of age
ISA’s El Salvador Section was responsible for marketing the event, which was advertised through mass media and social networks. In addition, section members served as judges for the competition.
The winners from each category will represent El Salvador in a worldwide competition to be developed in 2017 in Costa Rica, Central America.

Industry 4.0: Industrial Automation News
ISA’s Campinas Section held a technical meeting, Industry 4.0: Industrial Automation News, in Paulínia on 10 November, 2016. The event, which was promoted by the section and hosted by Solvay, drew more than 100 enthusiastic professionals.

Luiz Jesus, Solvay Latin America Engineering Director, kicked off the event. It continued with technical presentations from Endress+Hauser, Baumier, Rexroth, Siemens and Beckhoff. Topics, such as Industry 4.0 and Brazilian Scenario, industrial Ethernet security, product development, automation strategic planning, and integration benefits, were discussed. In addition, Solvay presented a local success case titled Automation Network.

ISA Israel 4th Conference
In Kfar Hamacabia, the ISA Israel Section held its fourth conference on instrumentation, control, electrical and automation topics. More than 1,000 visitors attended the event to hear more than 30 lectures on cybersecurity for automation systems, industrial automation, new control technologies, process measurement, and wireless communication.
ISA Campinas Section Annual Dinner
The ISA Campinas Section Annual Dinner was held on Saturday, 26 November, at the Premium Hotel. It was a special time for section members, invited sponsors, and contributors to celebrate 2016 achievements and enjoy an Italian Festival.
During the dinner, ISA Campinas provided results on the election of its section directors for 2018-2019. Marcos Coghi was elected the section's President-Elect for this term.

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) in Manufacturing Industries
The ISA Maharashtra Section is in the midst of implementing a two-phased event. Phase 1, which took place 2 December, provided end user perspective on Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The section invited speakers from pharma, chemical, automotive, textiles, FMCG, and F&B. The audience included vendors and solution providers. The presentations covered the following topics:
- Vision toward IIoT for your Industry
- Envisage your roadmap for IIoT implementation
- Barriers or challenges foreseen
- Expectations from solution providers/vendors in this space:
- Product offerings
- Project management
- Vertical and horizontal integration
- System security
- Robust system architecture etc.
In Phase 2, which should occur in January 2017 or February 2017, the vendors and solution providers are expected to deliver case studies on the challenges shared by the end users in phase 1. This would typically be a full-day conference in Mumbai.
