PRESENTATION ON REBUILDING IRAQ AND BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES FOR CANADIAN COMPANIES

We have a very interesting and timely topic for February.  One of our fellow members has been working on the reconstruction project in Iraq, and has returned to Canada safely.  He has much to share with us about his experiences in Iraq.  Natik Hussain graduated from Moscow Communication University with a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering degree.  He has worked as an instrumentation and control equipment/systems engineer, including industrial control systems for over 15 years as well as extensive project management experience for over 20 years.  His most recent project is in directing a project team for Haditha Dam Hydro Station rehabilitation in Iraq.

Natik’s presentation will include a brief history of Iraq from 16th Century to date (explaining maps of Iraq at 16th century, division of the middle east in 1916, contemporary Iraq)  the damages and reconstruction of industries. As well as the current situation including The Green Zone-Living conditions, Personal Security Providers, Security impact on cost and execution (explanation with pictures and videos).  

The Canadian possible involvement, The CAN$400 million aid commitment, Possible involvement of Iraqi-Canadians in reconstruction and finally the politics of project involvement and winning contracts in Iraq.

 

  • Brief history of Iraq from 16th  Century to date (explaining maps of Iraq at 16th century, division of the middle east in 1916, contemporary Iraq)

  • Iraq Wars: Civil war (north and south)-Iran/Iraq war, 1st  Gulf war, 2nd Gulf War, Occupation- The impact (explaining with photos environmental effects and damages, health deterioration, water and sewage disaster, industrial collapse)
  • Damages and reconstruction of industries (Oil & Gas, Communication, Transport, Chemical, Education, etc.)
  • Current situation- The Green Zone-Living condition-Personal Security Providers- Security impact on cost and execution (explanation with pictures and videos)
  • Canadian possible involvement, The CAN400 million aid commitment, Possible involvement of Iraqi-Canadians in reconstruction
  • Politics and winning contracts in Iraq- contemporary ethics
