The Vendor Show will begin at 11:00 am in the “Depot” with a buffet lunch.

Over 30 exhibitors are expected.  At 1:00 pm the Symposium will start in the “Forum Room” with the last of three sessions ending at around 6:00 pm.  Session one will be on “How to Select a Safety PLC,”  presented by Tom Elswick of Siemens, session two will be on “Wireless I/O and Network Basics,” by Terry Roseberry from Banner, and session three will be on “Arc Flash,” by Bob Nicholson from JDRM.   Professional Engineering PDH’s will be awarded for each of the symposium sessions.  Attendance and lunch are free, symposium seating is open.

More details on the Symposium are as follows:

Session one, “How to Select a Safety PLC,” by Tom Elswick a member of Siemens’ Systems Engineering Support Center as a Principal Systems Engineer with safety systems responsibility, discusses the key considerations related to:   applicable standards, determining the hazard levels, differences between process safety and machine safety, highly available as compared to fail-safe systems, available architectures, and types of evaluation elements.  The final step is the actual considerations involved in selecting components implementing the safety function.  The session is aimed at those attendees at the “beginner” to “intermediate” level of safety PLC experience.  The discussions will stay fairly high level while trying to capture the key concepts across the topic breadth.

Session two, “Wireless I/O and Network Basics” by Terry Roseberry Business Development Manager Wireless Products for Banner Engineering, will cover radio (RF) basics, network architectures, IP67 housings, class I division 1/class I division 2 locations, site survey (RF signal strength), battery and solar power options, and real applications in rugged industrial environments.

Session three, “Gone in a ‘Flash’ … Electrical Safety-Related Work Practices, Keys to Compliance” by Bob Nicholson Electrical Designer and “Arc Flash” Specialist with JDRM Engineering, is designed to assist attendees in understanding the elements of an effective electrical safe work practices program and how NFPA 70E is used to demonstrate compliance with adopted OSHA standards.

All sessions will allow time for questions and answers between the presenters and attendees.  The length of the sessions will be between 1 and 1.5 hours.  You must sign in at the beginning of the session with your name and e-mail to receive PDH’s.
