Variable Frequency Drives:

Douglas Napier of Toshiba will give a presentation on various topics centering on variable frequency drives. The presentation will review basic theory of operation; wiring considerations, such as effect of length of output leads, filters; harmonics; sizes of drives available, in terms of horsepower and footprint; and mounting options: MCC, outdoor, indoor.



About the speaker Douglas Napier is an engineering trainer with Toshiba International Corporation (TIC). Douglas currently teaches Basic ASD Theory and Operation, Basic Drives for Non-Technical Persons, Basic ASDs for HVAC, and Toshiba ASD for Consulting Engineers, and participates in a Toshiba training program that is geared toward specification, sales, and service to the industrial and HVAC markets. Doug worked as a Field Service Engineer for three years and as a Line Maintenance Foreman for ten years. He jokingly refers to himself as a graduate of "Magna Cum Lumpy" from the "School of Hard Knocks." Doug emerged from the US Navy submarine force as a nuclear trained electrician and has spent almost thirty years in the high-tech industry, at corporations such as Hewlett Packard, Interstate Brands Corporation, Applied Materials, Merck-Medco, and Benshaw.
