FRED ROSSE
Fred Rosse is a mechanical consulting engineer in the electric power industry, with more than 30 years experience in prime movers and power generation. Technical capabilities of in-plant mechanical, fluid, and thermal system are the primary focus of Fred's career. Fred has written numerous computer programs dealing with heat transfer, fluid flow, and thermal cycle analysis. Fred is a member of the ASME Working Group for Performance Testing Heat Exchangers, and a member of the Pennsylvania State University Steam Condenser Advisory Group. He has taught the Modern Power Plant Engineering Course for the Engineers Club of Philadelphia, and presently teaches similar company-sponsored courses.
Topic:
The presentation will provide an overview of the technologies presently used, and envisioned for the future, for providing electric power in the USA and worldwide. Conventional fossil power generation will be reviewed, and newer technologies with higher efficiencies and/or lower emissions will be examined. These technologies include IGCC plants, new nuclear power systems, and fusion power. Renewable power technologies, including biomass generation, wind, tidal, wave, geothermal and solar will also be examined.
Technical challenges which are associated with each of the generating technologies, and the future generation mix envisioned by leading international agencies will be presented. Plant emissions, including greenhouse gas emissions, will be brought into perspective within the presentation.
