Welcome to the 50th Anniversary of the POWID Symposium! This year we would like to invite you to experience a different sort of atmosphere than in the past. Pittsburgh is not your ordinary city and during this very special event we will share with you some surprisingly new experiences that no other place could offer. Pittsburgh is not a large and impersonal place. This city is more like a small town with a big city heart. It is a city of neighborhoods, as geographically diverse as they are ethnically unique. Pittsburgh natives believe their city is larger than it really is, but those who visit never argue with the relentless devotion that follows this steel-town. No matter the size, there is a sense of quaintness and familiarity that permeates the hills and valleys of the Three Rivers. All who come here stay a little longer than they had originally planned. Maybe it’s because they fall in love with the hometown feel or the nostalgic approach to life. Whatever it may be, I think the most powerful draw to Pittsburgh is its residents—people who know you by your name and always have a smile on their face. We hope you have a wonderfully personal and pleasurable experience here in the ‘Burgh!
