1998-1999 ISA Orange County Section Board Meeting #8

March 10, 1998

  1. Call to Order / Opening Comments – Bis Mitra

         Bis Mitra opened the Meeting at 7:35 PM.

  1. Board Meeting Minutes Approval – Christine Tachdjian

The February 10, 1999 Board meeting minutes were approved by John Querido and 2nd by Deepak Vora.

  1. Treasurer’s Report – Terry Sellers

Terry submitted the monthly Treasurer Report.

  1. Programs – Deepak Vora/Meenakshi Govil

Program topic for March will by an MES (Manufacturing Execution System) related tour.  (Since the meeting and typing of these minutes, the tour is cancelled and will be replaced by a program topic PC Based Control Systems).

May Program will be on Fiber Optics.

June Program will be the Getty Museum Tour and Picnic.  The Getty reservation is for 10:30 AM for 90 people and 18 cars.  Arrangements must be made for car pooling.  Previous ISA speakers will be invited.

July Program will be on an Internet topic.

  1. Arrangements – Al Thawer

Not Present – Report was submitted.

  1. Education – John Gong

Education Seminar on Windows CE went well .  39 people attended.

  1. Membership – Don Zee / Mai Luu

Membership report submitted by Don Zee.

  1. Honors Awards – Carl Skokan

Carl is in the process of submitting a fellow nomination for the Orange County Section.  Deadline is April 15th.  Cover letters with evaluation forms are being mailed.  Requirements of a minimum of 9 senior members required for the evaluation.

Still need to form a committee for new officer nominations.   Current nominations: Terry Sellers - President Elect, Christine Tachdjian - Treasurer.

  1. Student Section – Jim Cody

Two Student Section Board members were present: Fahad and Mustafa.

The Student Section had a barbecue on campus to inform students about ISA and obtain new members, 120 students attended.  $330 was reimbursed to the Student Section for event expenses.  Note: IEEE is offering a discount membership to ISA Student Members (dual membership discount)

Students are preparing for the Student competition to be held on May 18th at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Brea.

The Student Section also requested a tour of the Fluor Daniel facilities in conjunction with the Pomona Student Section - Bis will followup.

  1. Standards and Practices – Earl Montgomery

Earl is no longer on the Standards Board – No Report

  1. Publicity - Jim Utt

Jim Utt continues to publish meeting times in the Orange County ter and the LA Times.  Printing of meeting times is sporadic since it is a free service.

  1. Historian / Sec. Div Liaison / Society Delegate – John Querido

  1. Web Page – Bob Harrison

    Bob stated that there will be a Web Page Training Session at the District Workshop in Las Vegas.  The future of the Web organization will be as follows: 1. One Webmaster with overall passwords, 2. Different passwords for other various officers: President, Treasurer, Secretary, Publicity Chair, Education Chair...

  1. Old Business - Bis Mitra

Good turnout for the President's Winter Meeting in San Diego.  Our section participated in the expense of the President's Suite.

  1. New Business – All

A suggestion was made for ISA to contribute to a charity golf tournament.  It was voted that the section would contribute only to events that increase membership.

Liability Insurance: Bis requested that we pay an additional $200 for insurance to cover up to 250 people attending an event.  Current coverage is for 100 people.  Since no decision could be made due to lack of information regarding the current policy, Carl moved to study the current policy and vote on this issue at the next meeting, 2nd by Don Zee, passed.
