1998-1999 ISA Orange County Section Board Meeting #4

  1. Call to Order / Opening Comments- Bis Mitra

Bis Mitra opened the Meeting at 7:45 PM.

  1. Board Meeting Minutes Approval – Christine Tachdjian

The October 14, 1998 Board meeting minutes were approved by Don Zee and 2nd by Bob Harrison.

  1. Treasurer’s Report – Terry Sellers

Terry Sellers submitted bank statements for the month of October. Reconciliation Reports for all transactions were also submitted.

  1. Programs – Deepak Vora/Meenakshi Govil

December Meeting is the ISA Christmas Party on December 6th. The program topic for January will be on Financial Planning presented by Earl Montgomery.

  1. Arrangements – AL Thawer

A report was submitted. Five additional sponsors are needed for 1999 and Al is in process to secure more sponsors.

  1. Education – John Gong

First education seminar on "Fieldbus" will be held on Saturday November 14th 1998.

26 confirmed sign-ups. Sponsors are Fisher Rosemount, Siemens, Wonderware, and Think n’ Do. 7 Board members will attend

  1. Membership – Don Zee / Mai Luu

A report was submitted. Membership retention rate of ISA at society level is 78%

OC Chapter for July, August and September is 97%.

 

  1. Honors Awards – Carl Skokan

A plaque in honor of John Thuro (Don Zee Award recipient) is on order.

9. Student Section – Jim Cody / Hrag Ohannessian

Jim Cody was introduced to Board Members. Hrag is resigning from position due to business relocation.

  1. Standards and Practices – Earl Montgomery

Not Present - No report

  1. Publicity - Jim Utt

Notices of meeting and education seminar were placed in the Orange County register and the LA Times.

  1. Historian / Sec. Div Liaison / Society Delegate – John Querido

A report was submitted describing activities during ISA Expo and Society Delegates meetings in Houston. Highlights of report:

Society is starting a mentor program for young members.

Renewing membership for 2 to 3 years in advance will be at a reduced rate.

Don Zee elected for ISA Society Treasurer.

John Querido was nominated as DVP Elect Elect.

  1. Old Business – Bis Mitra

Expo 98 in Houston was successful. OC Section received the Gold Section Award ($500) for outstanding education seminars.

Society ISA Website will have a new feature in 1999: ISA Online which will inform members via E-mail of user’s requested events and news.

OC Chapter has a Website. ISA OC Webmaster will be Bob Harrison.

  1. New Business – All

Bob Harrison was nominated as a backup to the Honors and Awards Board Member position.

There will be a $25.00 reward to every Board Member who recruits 10 new members.

Al Thawer proposed to maintain an ISA Library of technical books. Most Board members opposed. Some of the reasons given: Who would maintain it? Where would the library reside? How do you police unreturned books?
