  1. Call to Order / Opening Comments- Bis Mitra

Bis Mitra opened the Meeting at 7:20 PM.
  1. Board Meeting Minutes Approval – Christine Tachdjian

The August 12, 1998 Board meeting minutes were approved by Jim Utt and 2nd by Terry Sellers.

  1. Treasurer’s Report – Terry Sellers

Terry Sellers submitted bank statements for period ending 7/31/98 and 8/31/98. Reconciliation Reports for all transactions were also submitted.

  1. Programs – Deepak Vora/Meenakshi Govil

The program topic for October will be "Getting Object Oriented" presented by Object Automation.

November meeting will be held at Cal State University, Fullerton. The November Program will consist of inviting Managers from companies to give a presentation on opportunities for new graduates in the control system field.
  1. Arrangements – AL Thawer

Al was introduced by Bis as the new arrangements chair.
  1. Education – Bob Harrison/john Gong

First education seminar on "Fieldbus" will be held on Saturday November 14th 1998.

  1. Membership – Don Zee / Mai Luu

Not present – No report

 
  1. Honors Awards – Carl Skokan

Orange County ISA Section received the Gold Certificate Award in the Section Recognition Program. The award will be presented on Sunday October 18, 1998 at the Awards Acceptance dinner.

Don Zee has received the Distinguished Society Service Award.

A list of nominees for the Don Zee Award has been made. A candidate will be chosen in the next few days (by Thursday August 17, 1998). The list of nominees will be kept for future reference.

9. Student Section – Jim Cody / Hrag Ohannessian

Two CSUF student members were present and stated that overall student involvement this year has been very active.
  1. Standards and Practices – Earl Montgomery

  1. Publicity - Jim Utt

Notices were placed in the Orange County register and the LA Times regarding today’s meeting. The notice appeared in the LA Times but not the Orange County Register due to strict deadlines. Future notices will be sent to both papers by publication deadline.

Work is completed on the insert flyer for November 14th Fieldbus seminar. The flyer will be distributed in the October issue of the Chart.
  1. Historian / Sec. Div Liaison / Society Delegate – John Querido

John will be going to Houston October 17 through 22 to represent our section in the Society Delegates Meeting.

Voting of ISA National officers will take place. Don Zee is nominated for Treasurer.
  1. Old Business – Bis Mitra

ISA is thinking of moving the West Coast ISA EXPO from Anaheim to San Diego or Phoenix, Az. The next ISA EXPO in our region is in Year 2003. This decision will be made in October.

 
  1. New Business – All

Bob Harrison moved the motion that LA Section $500 for ISA EXPO 98 student competition entry (Cal Poly Pomona).

Carl Skokan approved the motion and John Querido 2nd it.
