  1. Programs – Deepak Vora/Meenakshi Govil

Today’s program "PLC Protocols" attracted a very large audience. This demonstrates the fact that Program Topics are key to drawing a lot of members to the ISA meetings.

The program topic for September will be "Advanced Controls" presented by Honeywell.

October program will focus on Object Oriented Automation. November meeting will be held at Cal State University, Fullerton. The November Program will consist of inviting managers from companies to give an overview of Control Systems.

  1. Arrangements – John Gong

Not Present – No Report

  1. Education – Bob Harrison

Bob is working on the first education seminar to be held on Saturday November 14th 1998. He had a difficult time trying to deal with Horizon Learning Center. The focus is to establish a "hands on" computer class such as Windows 98.

Another option is to setup a Fieldbus Training Class but the cost may be too high ($290). There will be no short courses this year and the budgeted fund for this ($35,000) will be distributed amongst the three Southern California sections. This will help reduce the seminar cost. It was agreed that education seminars should be limited to $50 per person.

  1. Membership – Don Zee / Mai Luu

Don Zee submitted a handout on Section Membership Statistics.

One of the membership goals is to convert existing membership into senior members.

Don Zee needs a membership committee person to call expired members to renew their membership.

Mai announced that there were 57 ISA members in tonight’s meeting and there were 9 non ISA members. She will E-mail the names of those non-members to Bis.

  1. Honors Awards – Carl Skokan

Our section received the Gold Award ($500).
