Distance Learning Programme In Instrumentation And Control For Engineering Professionals

Prospectus for Distance Learning Programme -
for ISA Certified Instrumentation and Controll Professionals

1. Introduction
India possesses one of the largest pools of technical personpower. The number of graduates and postgraduates India produces is phenomenal. According to the study conducted by the Institute of applied manpower Research, the intake of all engineering and technical courses at the degree level is over 1,35,000 students and for the diplomas it is over 1,90,000 students. Unfortunately there are not enough job opportunities for qualified personnel . At the same time, career opportunities demand educational levels of  B. E. Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical/ Chemical discilines. In fact it can be said that Degree holders seekers should  opt for these basic courses and upgrade their skills by joining this course. This way they will have much better employment and promotion prospects than those   taking Instrumentation as a discipline. . ISA India Region has been conducting yearly events for Degree/Diploma Students. It was found that a very wide gap exists between the Degree/Diploma Level education and Industrial requirements. This course is designed to bridge this gap as much as possible.

2. Eligibility
This course will be beneficial to the following catagory of Professionals

  1. Professional Engineers with Mechanical, Electrical, Instrument, Electronic,
    Chemical, Computer Technology - to value add to their current skills

  2. Graduates who have just completed their Graduation or about to complete
    To bridge the very wide Technology gap between education and industry.

  3. Instrument and Control Professionals who have wide experience but need to brace upto the current technology and to enhance their career prospects

3. The Course Design
The correspondence course is designed to be covered in six months. It will have six modules viz.

I. Pressure Measurement

II Flow Measurement

III Temperature & Level Measurement

IV Analytical Instrumentation

V. Process Control applications -PID Control, Cascade, Split Range, Ratio, Programmable Controller,SCADA, DCS

VI. Project Management including Safety, Installation Practice and Documentation

VII. Process Equipments you must know more about: Distillation Towers, Heat Exchangers, Furnaces, Storage Tanks

The course will be certified by ISA International, Maharashtra Section

4. Course Commencement
The course can be commenced any month. You can attend the next workshop after completion of the correspondence phase.

5. Day concluding workshop
This course will culminate in a 4-day workshop including industrial visit, examination and certification. The workshop will be held in November and March/April

6. The Course Fee
The course fee is Rs. 10,000 inclusive of course material, workshop, examination fees, and certification. Participants can make their own arrangements for stay during the workshop. ISA will assist in finding suitable accommodation wherever necessary. The workshop will be conducted in New Bombay. Maximum number of seats will be 20. Those seeking employment will be recommended to the Industry Depending upon their performance during the course and examination.

7. The Course Execution
It is designed to include practice of Instrumentation and Control Systems mostly used in industry. The course material will be distributed on a monthly basis. The course will be interactive in the sense that the Participants will be able to clarify their doubts every month through e-mail, fax or post. After completion of the course, there will be a 4-day workshop to summarize and give finishing touch to the course. The workshop will comprise of videotape guided training under the supervision of experienced trainers. There will also be an industrial visit to enlighten the students re; practical aspects of installation and engineering. The workshop will be followed by a written examination. Those who succeed in the examination will be certified accordingly. Those who fail in the test can subsequently appear for the test after fulfilling the remaining requirements. The entire course will be conducted entirely as per the discretion of the committee appointed for the purpose by ISA International, Mah. Section and it's decision will be binding for all.

8. Industry Involvement
ISA International, Mah. Section cannot give any guarantee of employment. However, The industry will be taken into confidence right from the beginning of the course to maximise chances of smooth absorption of the course participants into industry.
