A MESSAGE FROM YOUR NATIONAL DELEGATE The ISA show in Chicago looked very busy to me. There were thousands of square feet of display booths, big screen presentations, technical papers, a temperature symposium, and meetings. Man&ldots;. Was there meetings! Meetings for District 1, meeting for the Board of District Vice Presidents, Council of Society Delegates, and I had the "pleasure" of attending all of them! The District 1 VP meeting concerned the ISA operating budget. Along with most stocks and businesses, the ISA has had to cut. The VP reported that ISA national headquarters has cut staff headcount by 25%, travel budgets by 25%, and many other cuts. Many proposals are on the agenda for the Council of Society Delegates. At the CSD meeting, proposals voted on and approved include increasing the criteria for Life members, years of membership from 20 to 25 years and combined age and membership from 85 to 90, increasing membership fees, and adding a new class of membership - the virtual student. We elected new officers for the year by welcoming the new president, Robert P.Ives, and new president-elect, Lowell McCaw. The honors and awards banquet was well attended and fairly fancy from my perspective. The ISA Education Foundation Scholarship recipients included Scott St. Peter from NMTC. He received the only scholarship from the ISA Executive Board. Congratulations to Scott, NMTC, and our own VP, Chuck Kelley. The Board of Vice Presidents meeting was a multi-day affair. Spreadsheets and budgets were the order of the day. The business of ISA is very detailed and this board is where the rubber meets the road. Thanks to Downeast Maine Section for helping to defray my travel costs to attend these meetings and represent you. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a very merry New Year!
