Old Town Canoe Visit and Tour
March 29, 2002
Paul Geislar of FMC arranged a visit and tour of the Old Town Canoe
manufacturing facility on March 29, 2002. Randy Cobb, Electrical
Supervisor, gave the twenty of us an excellent tour of their
facility. Thanks to all at Old Town Canoe for making us feel at home
in their facility.
Everyone enjoyed touring the facility and learning about the
different types of canoes and kayaks that Old Town Canoe
manufactures. Basically, four major processes are utilized in the
manufacturing operations. Old Town Canoe ships 70,000 to 80,000 boats/year.
The site was expansive and impressive. It is clear that Old Town
Canoe is deservedly the leading manufacturer of canoes and kayaks. As
always, we are happy to see a business such as this thrive in Maine.
After the tour, the group retired to the Chocolate Grille in Old Town
for lunch and a brief ISA meeting. The major topic of discussion was
the upcoming ISA Vendors Day to be held on Thursday, May 16,
2002. This year, we are hoping that the show will be well attended.
We are trying to structure this day to be worthwhile for customers as
well as vendors. Please be sure to reserve your tables with Jake
Jacobson as soon as possible and add this event to your calendars.
Also, please advise of any suggestions you might have to make this a
better day for you.
