Chad Adams, Senior Engineer in Simulator Support with Duke Energy, will give us a behind the scenes tour of the McGuire Nuclear Station Control Room Training Simulator. We will observe and perform a simulation exercise, look at the DCS controls and recent controls upgrades, and see a newly installed Virtual Control Room Simulator. Please meet in the lobby of the Technical Training Center (Bldg. #7408). Directions are below. The tour will start promptly at 6:00p. Reservations: Due to the expected popularity of this tour, reservations are intially open to current ISA members ONLY. Reservations will be open to non-members at 12 Noon on Wednesday, May 16th, as space is available. Non-member reservations received prior to that time will not be considered. Please be sure to include contact information in your e-Mail reservation. Your name will be placed on a waiting list in case we have any cancellations. If you make reservations and your plans change, please advise so we can notify someone on the waiting list. The deadline for reservations/cancellations is 12 Noon on Monday, May 21st. Directions: Note - GPS and online map directions via street address are incorrect. Traffic conditions along I-77 North and NC Highway 73 are very heavy during rush hour. Expect delays. Plan your travel times accordingly. Take I-77 Exit 25 to NC Highway 73 West/Sam Furr Road. Follow signs for the Energy Explorium. Take Highway 73 West approximately 4.4 miles to the main entrance to McGuire Nuclear Station. Turn right at the stoplight onto McGuire Nuclear Station Road. Stay in the right hand lane, pass flashing caution light, go through security gate and cross bridge over discharge canal. After crossing bridge, turn right, then keep right into parking lot for the Technical Training Center (TTC), Building #7403. 55th Annual ISA POWID Symposium - Austin TX The 55th Annual ISA POWID Symposium will be held 3–8 June 2012 at the Renaissance Austin Hotel in Austin, Texas, USA. The symposium, hosted by ISA’s Power Industry Division, provides information on the latest innovations in controls, instrumentation, cybersecurity, smart grid, regulatory issues and variable energy technologies, which impact the power generation delivery systems. Abstracts may be submitted for the POWID Symposium now through 15 January 2012. Papers should focus on some aspect of the theme, “Power Generation–Automation Today and Tomorrow,” and should be relevant to the power industry.
