ISA12.21, Fiber Optics

Scope

Prepare standards and recommended practices for the construction, test, and installation of fiber optic systems intended for instrumentation and communication systems in hazardous (classified) locations.
To promote current technology for proper use and maintenance toward enhanced safety in hazardous areas.
Be a source of technical information.
Support efforts to obtain international standards for instrumentation and communication.

Purpose

To be a source of expertise and prepare documents for use of fiber optics in instrumentation as it relates to hazardous (classified) locations.

A Word from the Chairman

ISA12.21 is currently working on the revision of ISA-TR12.21.01-2004, Use of Fiber Optic Systems in Class I Hazardous (Classified) Locations and on ISA-60079-28, Electrical Apparatus for Explosive Gas Atmospheres - Part 28: Protection of equipment and transmission systems using optical radiation.
