Web Seminar: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID): Overview and Applications (SP27W)Click here to view list of Web Seminar offerings. Description:In a manner similar to the introduction and adoption of electronic product codes (bar codes), the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) techniques for key infrastructure goals (such as pervasive asset and commodity tracking) has exploded onto the scene. The combination of passive (no power source), semi-active, or active RFID “tags” with associated handheld or fixed RFID “readers” gives you the possibility of discretely and efficiently interrogating the tags via wireless techniques. As such, RFID presents a different form of wireless sensing network then the more traditional form typically represented by a temperature sensor/thermostat combination that is monitored via a wireless network. The goals of this seminar are to introduce the conceptual, logistical, and application-specific concepts, along with the fundamental engineering underpinnings of RFID technology. With this information in hand, you will then be able to make a more constructive decision as to how this technology may be integrated into your industrial or comparable setting. It covers the fundamental aspects associated with the burgeoning usage of RFID technology. Using several specific examples of deployments in various settings—ranging from industrial to commercial to military—this seminar discusses the logistics associated with fixed or mobile reader systems to interrogate the RFID tags. Integration and co-existence issues associated with simultaneous operation of RFID systems and other wireless networks are also described. You will be able to:
