Overview

Length: 90 Minutes

Part 3 in the Industrial Ethernet Series.

Ethernet may be a good network for the plant floor, but a badly designed Ethernet network is a recipe for disaster. Starting with the nine key steps to successful network design, this seminar shows you how to create a reliable network for your plant. You will be introduced to the principles of good Ethernet cabling and equipment systems engineering, including a brief summary of the important EIA/TIA-568 standards.

Once the infrastructure is in place, we explore how to keep the network running reliably. Concepts of network security and redundancy for industrial control are introduced. Finally, numerous real life examples and case histories will help you avoid expensive mistakes in your plant and make Ethernet work for you.

Key Benefits

  • Understand how modern structures cabling systems can be used in the typical industrial plant to increase reliability and decrease maintenance.
  • Learn the principles of industrial network security and redundancy.
  • Discover the ten key steps to successful industrial network design.
  • Learn the concepts behind a structured cabling system and how it will save you money and time.
  • You will know what can go wrong with your network and learn the techniques that stop problems before they occur.
  • Understand the steps that should be followed to create a reliable industrial network.

Proposed Audience

  • Process Control Designers and Systems Engineers who are decision makers in their companies' industrial automation projects.
  • Instrumentation Technologists and Engineers responsible for maintaining or upgrading PLC and DCS systems.
  • Managers or executives that need to stay on top of the advances in their or their competitors technology.
  • IS managers needing an understanding of how industrial Ethernet differs from the traditional business network.
  • Anyone involved in the installation, design or support of industrial data highways, fieldbuses or device networks.

About Pre-Recorded Web Seminars

In today's work environment, there is limited time devoted to training. ISA now offers you the option of accessing a Web seminar at a time that is convenient for you.

ISA's Pre-Recorded Web seminars give you the same benefits as attending the live seminar broadcast, including hearing the instructor while simultaneously viewing the PowerPoint presentation. The only difference between the two is that the archived seminars do not allow for participation in a live Q & A session.

NOTE: You have three (3) weeks from the time you purchase the web seminar to complete.

Special Note! You can get this seminar and many more for free if you join ISA as a full member. Click here for details.

Equipment & System Requirements

Pre-Recorded Web seminar users will be able to view interactive, rich media presentations over the Web using industry-standard browsers and streaming media players. Presentations are viewed using Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, as well as Windows Media Player. There is no proprietary software to download. In addition to streaming audio, and high-resolution slides, the archive Player uses thumbnails of the slides to provide quick, non-linear navigation presentations. You will need:

  • PC with available sound capability
  • Internet connection running at 28.8 bps or faster
  • Java-enabled browser (Netscape Navigator 4.04 or later or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or later)
