This course is one in a vital three-part general maintenance course designed to familiarize the student with steam, steam trapping, and the different types of steam traps. Additionally, methods to test for steam trap operation during monitoring and troubleshooting are presented. Topics include:

-Defines live, dry, quality, wet, and flash steam
-Identifies factors used to determine steam trap size
-Lists conditions for each of the factors effecting trap size and identifies how to determine each of the factors
-Describes causes of water hammer, and ways to eliminate it
-Identifies five methods of monitoring steam trap operation, the general safety precautions while using them, and the advantages and limitations of each method
