Electricité De France chose Atos Origin, one of the leading international IT companies, to deliver a monitoring and diagnosis equipment based on vibration monitoring for the 900 and 1300 MW Nuclear Power Plant French fleet (54 NPPs). This system, called PSAD, is monitoring large or critical components such as turbine, generator, core vessel, primary circuit pumps or loose parts within the primary coolant loop in Nuclear Power Plants. PSAD vibration signature recording, comparison to the actual acquisition and remote diagnosis of EDF experts, allows for deciding the right time to intervene for maintenance teams and helps significantly in detecting abnormal evolutions. The originality of the solution concerns its capacity to manage, with the same system, different types of equipment or phenomena in a nuclear power plant: rotating machinery, internal reactor structures, loose parts detection, valves... Generally dedicated systems are used for each type of equipment or phenomena. Another original feature is its expert center data-base which allows comparing equipment behavior between several plants and studying new and uncatalogued defects related, for example, to equipment aging.
