About

The concept of a virtual intelligent device network (VDN) is a new architecture for open control systems. To the control system user, the VDN appears to be a single network of configurable devices, all of which share common characteristics and a standard interface. The VDN is physically implemented as a network of open controllers (PC-based control), each of which is connected to I/O systems that may include device networks, field bus networks, or any local I/O bus. This design concept achieves both seamless and backward compatibility between different device networks, and between smart and dumb I/O devices. It also creates an opportunity for a control system to effectively perform real-time dynamic simulation and autonomous control.
