Is there any need for more process analyzer training? Are the extant training classes and training methods perceived adequate to the need? If not, what do people really want: is web-based training seen as a potentially useful resource? These questions prompted an international survey to elicit the opinions of process analyzer engineers and technicians, the results of which are presented herein. The survey has generated responses from 13 countries on four continents, from respondents who are well qualified to comment. The paper describes the survey objectives and questionnaire design, including the full text of the 81 statements tested. A summary of responses is given for each statement and some conclusions are proposed. The overwhelming response is that analyzer people do want more training, but not necessarily on analyzer hardware. Most respondents need help with the basic science and the soft subjects, like general measurement theory and troubleshooting techniques
