ISA/O3neida Partnership Publishes New IEC 61499 and Safety Resources
Research Triangle Park, NC (30 December 2008) – An ongoing publishing partnership between ISA and O3neida has produced two new technical publications on current automation subjects of interest, with a third to be released in January 2009.
The first new book, titled “Real-Time Execution for IEC 61499,” is written by Dr. Alois Zoitl of ACIN at the Technical University of Vienna, and gives an analysis of dynamic reconfiguration and the execution behavior of IEC 61499.
The second new E-book, “Safety Profiles for Real-Time Ethernet-Based Industrial Automation Networks,” offers a clear introduction on real-time communication systems and functional safety concepts, the methods and techniques necessary to achieve real-time communication and functional safety compliance within industrial production systems according to the IEC 61508. It is written primarily by Dr. Luca Ferrarini from Polimi in Italy.
Dr. Ferrarini is also primarily responsible for an upcoming new book that contains 14 papers from more than 40 authors. Titled “Modeling, Control, Simulation and Diagnosis of Complex Industrial and Energy Systems”, this resource will be available in January and features papers that stem from the 50th anniversary conference of ANIPLA, the national automation society of Italy.
These volumes are the latest in a series of books on automation technologies that was first introduced last year when the first book of the series, a primer on the IEC 61499 standard by Dr. Valeriy Vyatkin, was published.
Founded in 1945, the International Society of Automation (www.isa.org) is a leading, global, nonprofit organization that is setting the standard for automation by helping over 30,000 worldwide members and other professionals solve difficult technical problems, while enhancing their leadership and personal career capabilities. Based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, ISA develops standards; certifies industry professionals; provides education and training; publishes books and technical articles; and hosts the largest conference and exhibition for automation professionals in North America. ISA is the founding sponsor of The Automation Federation (www.automationfederation.org).
O3neida is a network of networks that works to advance distributed industrial automation. ISA’s and O3neida’s partnership began in 2006 and currently, seven titles have been planned in this automation series.
